Meanwhile the all black film sinners about le heckin racist vampires got overadvertised and overrated.
The agenda here is obvious.

I think most people that had a problem with the movie had a problem with the execution, not necessarily the themes. I don't believe the movie is very thematically complex or philosophical, it comes across as very silly and scattered though.

Like the doctor for example, using iodine to stop the virus even though all iodine on the island should've already expired many years prior to the movie. Or the village avoiding the guy due to a simple misunderstanding that nobody cared to clear up. Or him "becoming a man" after he got put to sleep and then woke up to the guy handing him his mother's skull.

We can go down the list. The execution was just not good.

to the people who were upset, zombie movies are meant to introduce a bunch of characters who are thinly-sketched fodder for kill scenes. 28Y's main story only had one violent death (Henrik) and actually humanized him properly first. that and the meditation on death made it anti-torture-porn.

The rest of the world was doing just fine. It was just britain that was destroyed by the virus.
The doctor could have gotten the iodine perhaps from the ships that quarantine the island. There are all sorts of ways he could have gotten it.

they didnt avoid him over a simple understanding. He had hundreds of dead bodies in a field that he was collecting. Thats good enough reason to stay away for a lot of people. even the infected stayed away.

This is a post apocalyptic world. His mother being handed to him as just a skull isnt a far reach.
Theres lots of brutal murder in their world.
It was also an act of mercy the same way you can be legally euthanized in a hospital.
Her cancer was uncurable she knew she had to go.

What ships carrying barrels of iodine were stranded on the island exactly? The only ships allowed in the area are military patrols.
>He had hundreds of dead bodies in a field that he was collecting.
The protagonist's dad said that corpses were everywhere back then and the entire countryside smelled like death. There was no real reason to assume the guy killed them all. There was especially no reason why they couldn't simply ask him what happened, since they were 3 men with weapons and he has empty-handed.
>His mother being handed to him as just a skull isnt a far reach.

I thought it captured weirdness in a normal real way. The islanders haven't been isolated for very long but they've already defined new traditions and weird imagery like the bleeding masks and very dangerous boyhood trials. The infected act like animals, in the purest sense. They mark their territory, theyre opportunistic but not stupid, they'll run from a fight. A lot of the imagery around them like them at night glaring at the night vision camera, that's something you'd see animals do in a hunting camera. The deer head in the tree to mark territory or preserve for later or both. Kelson's schizo monument towards death being respected and even added to by Spike. The entire ending with Jimmy. Jimmy's dad going full loony time as he is ripped apart in religious euphoria.
Movie is full of weirdness. It's an almost banal weirdness.

He was but a simple botanist monk from europe who went to South America to learn about their amazing gardens and found a people who find it odd that people might object to them dancing around wearing the skins of their family members that they'd taken the day before. Despite that the Aztecs had a very advanced society. I put it down to the fact that everything there is hallucinogenic. There was more story to tell about this world 28 years later.

There is a nearby city that has effectively been abandoned so some form of usable iodine may well be available to him. That you think this is a viable line of discussion for your anxiety ridden brain is more of a mystery worth pondering thoughbeit

Sure, "may". We can come up with a million different answers here, but none of them are compelling. Maybe he received airdrops of iodine. Maybe there was a ship carrying iodine that was conveniently stranded for him to reach. Maybe he just took casual strolls through the zombie apocalypse to scavenge for his iodine. None of these are impossible, they're just retarded.

None of them are compelling because you are ridden with anxiety.

Large amounts of iodine that could last one person two decades of continual use can typically be found from:

Industrial chemical suppliers (bulk iodine crystals and compounds) .

Pharmaceutical ingredient distributors (API iodine and formulations) .

Wholesale supplement manufacturers (bulk potassium iodide or iodine tablets) .

Specialized chemical companies offering customized packaging, including smaller or larger volumes and tailored solutions .

These sources provide iodine in quantities far exceeding consumer needs, suitable for extremely long-term personal use when stored under optimal conditions.

Origin
The copypasta is believed to have originated on the military and weapons enthusiast image board Operator Chan sometime in 2010. The earliest archived posting was submitted on November 11th, 2010 to 4chan's /jp/[4] (Otaku Culture) board, in which the poster claimed to have seen the message previously on Operator Chan.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

Like the other guys said, it's weird and clearly trying to be art instead of a zombie movie played straight like Days was.

As a movie, its basic structure is a coming-of-age story of a young boy and his addled mother, not about survival or horror. Zombies are a backdrop and rare plot device. The virus is still called rage virus but it discards everything known about it from before, instead going its own way on what zombies are like.

But making a coming-of-age story disguised as a zombie movie wasn't enough. They wanted an artsy touch to it. Certain scenes are spliced with foreign audio and visuals for thematic effect. For example, they repeatedly strobe scenes of an old Richard the Lionhart film and also play the audio of that women intensely reciting an old poem of the British Army marching across Africa, about boots. Lastly, the first and last scene of the movie are solely about a sequel which isn't out yet and feels misplaced, the latter even more so for its quirkiness.

My personal conclusion is that it is worth watching (worth "experiencing" if you're pretentious enough), but don't expect a sequel to the franchise. Expect an artsy coming-of-age film with a zombie theme.

I do not recall the strobing of different films or outside poem recitals over scenes at any point in 28 Days Later. If it exists, it was used well enough to not overpower the rest of the movie like it does in Years, and you walk out of Days feeling like it was a zombie movie played straight, which you do not feel leaving Years.

In short, I'm calling bullshit on you.

>they are literally children who grew up in the horrible traumatising world so they have a warped sense of pop culture hence is why they all dress and act like jimmy saville. he never hot outed as a pedo in their world.

This explanation for the Jimmies doesn't work, because Jimmy Prime was a young boy sitting watching the Teletubbies in the late 90s/early 00s when the outbreak began, and to his generation Jimmy Savile was a somewhat obscure figure of the past. Savile was quietly retired from television in 70s and from radio in the 80s, meaning he had no pop-cultural relevance to 90s kids. They have might hear about Savile from their parents or read about the man's charity work in the papers, but there were no Savile fans in their age bracket, because Jim'll Fix It was long gone.

28 Days does have an artsy touch because that's Danny Boyle's style. The use of score and cinematography is atypical for these types of films.

Nothing in that scene pulls you out of the movie like certain choices in Years does. For example, in Years, the kid's drugged out trip and the fire spark vortex do not pull you out of the movie either. That's not the kind of scene I'm talking about.

How does iodine expire? It's an element isn't it?
Anonymous No.214066441 >>214066596
>>214065978
Not him, but iron is an element and you know how that goes. Oxygen corrodes everything, chemicals like to bond, and sunlight breaks molecules. There's lots of ways for seemingly non-perishables to perish. Most commonly, you should be familiar with various vitamins and minerals "expiring," which in real terms means losing efficacy, as in "We can guarantee you'll get 300mg of the specific molecule you're looking for per tablet for 6 months, but after that, it'll be maybe 270mg, then 150mg, etc." as chemicals bond and change from the intended.

doesnt really expire, form can change but still usable the actual issue is if he was covering himself in that much iodine he would overdose and his thyroid would be toast then his brain

>iron oxide is edible not an expired food
But if you require elemental iron for a support beam and it turns into iron oxide, the buildings collapses. The transformation is deterimental to the purpose. The same degredation exists elsewhere. If Povidone Iodine producers are legally required to tell customers that it's no longer useable after 5 years, there is a reason you should believe them, and whatever minimal potency loss there was after 5 years is total potency loss after 28 years.

>form can change but still usable
The two types of iodine degradation are liquid oxidation, which drastically reduces concentration and thus ability to work as an antiseptic, or solid sublimation, where the iodine escapes into the air as a gas and leaves no active ingredient in the product. Neither form of degraded iodine is "still usable."
