This is the all-time biggest memory holed film of all time. Critics mostly loved it, and it won Oscars for Art Direction, Sets and Costumes. It was a big deal, the historical epic (think Gone With The Wind or Barry Lyndon) of the 90's in some respects. Not the biggest hit at the box office (casting Meg Ryan was a misstep) but DVDs are next to impossible to find and it never came out on Blu-Ray or 4K so Miramax has a hateboner for it.

Was popular at the time and during the 90s and had sequels. However I don't see it having a kind of legacy that I would expect given what I remember of the popularity at the time. I see no references, no memes, nobody doing retrospectives. This isnt the same as having no cultural impact because it did. But it has faded away, even from memory.

It is a little debatable that the song wasn't created for Mystery Men... but given that it was the very last track they made for Astro Lounge, and was released May 1999, it's not unlikely that it could have been. The movie was released in July 1999, so the movie itself would have been in post. The track was used in the original Mystery Men theatrical trailer and the music video uses footage from the movie and was made to promote the film. It was still a hot new track when the movie was released. I remember the music video getting a lot of rotation.
