Not really a tossup, him as Daniel Plainview was really engaging and gripping to watch, but DDL as Bill the Butcher was just too much fucking fun. Bill was one of the most entertaining character's I'd ever seen. Every scene with him is just intense and entertaining as fuck. Also his accent was literally perfect. I really like both movies and DDL, but you also haven't considered Phantom Thread. I suggest you see it if you want to see him truly absorbed into a character. Christ, Woodcock feels like a truly real person for his time period and career. One of the most sheerly realistic, fleshed out characters I've ever seen.
