after jack drank the bourbon from lyod, he becomes very hostile and murderous towards his family. i feel the drink was a forbidden fruit given to jack in order to make him choose to side the hotel or his family. after that, the hotel starts doing stuff for jack, but only after he strikes the bargin.

Pretty sure Kubrick said up until that point the audience could dismiss the supernatural elements as hallucinations, but ghosts being real is the only thing that makes sense after this

dilbert also told him about the cook coming. you could say the cook just happened to think something was wrong, byt the odds are one in a billion

The book rules.
Steve was really struggling with substance abuse and writes some relatable things.

Adaptations don't have to conform to the source material. I think these questions are asinine, but still.
Anonymous No.214083436
>>214080979
the adaption doesn’t follow the book 100%. the book was also mediocre compared to the film.

he lets himself out.

grady was allegedly the previous caretaker, but grady tells him that he has always been the caretaker.
i believe that hotel had people dying there, but them now interacting are the manifestation of the peoples shining. and that being said, both danny and jack have it. which also suggest exactly this >>214079489

jack is foretelling the future, just like danny, he cuts off the snow cats cables before he tells wendy she is in for a surprise if she tries to run away.
same in the maze, he follows danny to a t, only until danny outsmarts him.
or when he goes after wendy knowing exactly where she is hiding in the bathroom. The timing of jack going behind his family is noteable.

>>214079529
jack violating danny is an going theme too. you have the reincarnation of evil and its symbols like the bear (when danny is resting on one at the doctors visit), that spans over generation.
the shining is what light does, it permeates, gives off echoes, communication through time and space, meaning it also changes reality.

I like reading and it's a decent book. I just thought that anon was trying to be too smug. Kubrick didn't give a fuck about what the book says, your interpretation should be based on the film.

Jack is a drunk closeted faggot who rapes his son and refuses to admit it ("he did this to himself!" + the absolute disgust when kissing the girl from room 237)
Danny has an identity disorder because of the rapes ("Tony lives in my mouth then hides in my stomach")
Wendy is completely crazy too

Danny let Jack out, the maze scene that's not part of the book is a simple adaptation of the maze fight between Theseus and the Minotaur.
Kubrick took the book and turned it into a cabin fever + alcohol, family traumas and sexual abuse story. He even admitted to not even trying to follow the book.

The bear scene turning into short and uncomfortable gay blowjob is there for a reason.
