Well the Jem'Hadar would have destroyed the Defiant, killing everyone aboard just as Garak said, but by then the Founder planet would have already been nuked.
Something I've wondered; would the Jem'Hadar have sought revenge or would they all commit suicide for having failed their gods?

T'was the dark side of the moon
On the sixth of June
In a freighter, pullin' ore
Cabover Pete with an Orion whore
And a Jimmy haulin' gel
We was headin' for hell
In sector 3-6-1-7
'Bout a light year from Fair Haven
I says, Pig Pen this here's the Rubber Duck
And I'm about to put the hammer down

[Chorus]
'Cause we got a little 'ole convoy
Rockin' through the dark
Yeah, we got a little 'ole convoy
Chewin' space up like a shark
C'mon and join our Convoy
'Cause the void is anarchy
We gonna warp this freightin' convoy
'Cross the galaxy
Convoy

kek no. It had immense potential, we could have gone back to the wild west feel, with danger in every episode and early space travel, we could have seen things like the birth of the UFP, or earlier with the first contact with Vulcans, pretty much endless possibility but instead Faggon Faga just made it the same old reheated TNG shit that that VOY was just with an industrial paint job and jumpsuits. Easily the Trek show that made the least of its premise. It dropped all attempts at its premise after a few episodes of season 1 and might as well have taken place in the TNG era after that.

I hated that too. Just a complete misunderstanding of Vulcans, it was like someone wrote them based on Seth McFarlane cutaway gags. They seemed to think that Vulcans were actually emotionally aloof bastards, when TOS>Movies>Sarek ep in TNG always made it clear that was just a cope for them, because their race has overly explosive emotions and attachments they need to control.

It was like they tried to do what they did for Klingons in TNG and DS9 but it just didn't work because they actually showed the based side of Klingons in those like with Kurn and Martok.

He needed a character reference because he's not a registered citizen. If references were good for Fed citizens then Wesley had the best referral possible in the entirety of the fleet (who, at that time before getting LOCUTUS'D was in far better standing than Sisko ever was), but it did nothing for him. Picard also failed his first attempt despite being incredibly driven, but that's implied to be more because he was kind of brash, cocky and thuggish when he was a young man, and he nearly got kicked out of the academy when he was in it.

IMO the academy is set up like a standard police / army entrance process, the fitness and academic sections of the testing aren't extremely rigorous (we see that with Troi basically being completely clueless about all that stuff), you can get in if you're just not a complete fucking retard and have common sense, but they have zero tolerance for any kind of mental instability and just refuse you no matter how good you are in other fields if they think you will crack or chimp out under pressure.

There are a lot of great things about it.

The dialogue between characters, the sets, the acting, and just the general concept of doing Holmes on a holodeck is kino. But the show does not execute the Trek part of the idea very well.

I'm pretty sure this episode was about an original problem that would actually challenge him not that he "couldn't solve" it on his own. He's such an expert on Holmes that anything derivative the computer came up with he was able to instantly know the answer because of his advanced pattern noooticing abilities.

>Yeah bro there was an entire alien people here and I lived with a single mortal
>Yeah I'm about 10 000 years old and get mad over trivial things
>Yup, super terrifying god powers, better not cross me
I mean there's at least one species that sucks the life force right out of Jake Sisko so who's to say Old Man Grumperson wasn't just fucking with them?

this is dumb, you really want story how about this, the klingons are exterminating the tribble, quark is selling them on the black market, odo investigates the twist at the end is quark was just trying to justify what he was really doing, saving the species from extinction, think cartman in the southpark catpiss episode, still light hearted still plenty of opportunity for humor but no gross scene of fluffy little creatures dead in space banging into the hull, thats just disgusting and mean spirited, sounds like something nu-trek would do

O'Brien had the lieutenant officer pips and Riker calls him lieutenant once or twice. Ron D. Moore had served for a few months in the Navy as a youngin so he thought there should be guys doing that in Starfleet and made O'Brien an NCO in season 4.

I feel like when people argue about the early season stuff like they're doing itt they have to square it away with the fact that writers on the same show thought a lot of it was retarded and tried to move on from it.

I really don't think that's a concern for the moneybags guys
The way I see it, is that they used to order seasons ~20 episodes long. If the show flopped, no second season. If audiences knew the show wasn't going to be renewed for a second season, viewership plummeted. At some point, some pencil pusher decided to split the first "test" season into two, that are each about 8-10 episodes long. By ordering "two" seasons of a show, it's a way to fake out audiences into thinking that either the producers are confident enough in the show to renew it, or that the ratings were good enough to order a second one. This usually can keep viewship up for a 3rd or 4th season of middling-bad quality nowadays, and they usually don't cancel it earlier unless viewship is in the absolute gutter, or someone working on it has a controversy levied against them, because at that point it's more worth it to ride it out until the end. They might even crap out a shorter 5th season to meet contractual deadlines. Unfortunately, this has the consequence of making fans of shitty tv shows defend them to the grave because, "it ran for 5 seasons, they wouldn't have kept making it if nobody liked it/it really was shit".

I don't know how it is with streaming, but in the syndication days it was usually 6 year contracts for a show so unless a show was super popular it was really hard to get past 6 seasons because there was such a jump in salary demand.

Friends really messed with that because all of the 6 actors banded together and fucked with that model. They renegotiated for season 3 and kept doing so every season after. When the 6 year contract (that they continually renegotiated) was up, they stuck it to the network and demanded 750k each per episode. Season 9 they fucked with them again and upped it to 1 million each per episode. The Big Bang folks used the friends model to do the same thing.

I feel bad for Brent Spiner, because he actually is a really talented actor. The awards don't respect Sci-Fi from an acting standpoint because he deserved at least a nomination or 2 for some of this Data episodes. I understand he has a love/hate relationship with being Data beacause it's kept him paid over the years with residuals and cons but I believe it has cost him a lot of potential opportunities, because everywhere he turned he would always be Data.

Watch the rest of it then ya doofus.
TOS is great, but the production value and 60's camp is going to turn off a lot of modern audiences.
Go watch the original pilot for TOS called "The Cage" it gets chopped up and re-edited into a TOS episode (where the famous guy beeping in a chair comes from). But the original pilot is just a really solid golden age of sci-fi story.
Also watch the TOS movies.
If you want something like TNG, then go watch DS9. Might take you a bit of time to get used to the new vibe, but its good.
Voyager is Voyager. Its not awful, and once in a while its got some good trek. Counterpoint is one of my favorite episodes of trek ever. It also has some real turds. But its like Diet-TNG.
Personally I like enterprise a lot, but I understand that many people don't. You should watch it after voyager.
As far as I'm concerned trek ends there. I was excited for discover when it was first announced, and bryan fuller was the show runner, and the first season was going to be an anthology where they told stand alone stories at different points in the trek's history/timeline. So like a TOS era episode, and then next a 2 parter set in the time after the shows ended,

Yeah, because one spent years on a desolate planet alone, and one got beamed back safely and went on to live his life.
If "will" had been left behind and "thomas" beamed up, then they would both be in the same situation they find themselves in at the start of the episode.
They didn't mind meld or join the great link to synch their memories.
I just kind of hate that the bring back thomas riker for one episode in DS9, and then send him to the prison camps. He could have been a decent reoccurring character (or at least show up in a mirror universe episode, not like he has shit to do between signing autographs at conventions).
