The whole $200 million budget thing is so dishonest. Who did that money go to? The people that the movie. That's their own money. It went to the actors, the directors, the crew, the caterers, the marketers, the VFX people, the managers, etc, etc. The money didn't just disappear. It paid people's salaries. So as long as the movie breaks even at the box office it's a success it pays off all the debts incurred in making it and pays the people's bills.

It doesn't have to make money if it's restoring the brand

A flop? Ehh... a flop is a high bar, it needs to be or else the term means nothing.
A significant disappointment? Definitely.

The Fantastic 4, along the X-Men were the only new Marvel characters that anyone gives a shit about that Disney hadn't already used.
So this movie mostly flying under the radar, and for the first time losing out to their DC competition is a major issue for Disney and the MCU moving forward.
Disney has pinned much of their hopes of the future of the MCU on this film, so it doing pretty mediocre, not much better than the previous flops, is very bad.

It's not, but it's numbers show how much the MCU has fallen.

It does when it serves a purpose, and wasn't made to make a profit

500 million is break even. So not a flop, but a major failure.

I am a Fantastic Four fan and I still haven't seen it. It looked mediocre. Ben's voice is all fucked up, and I heard someone who sounded like a marketer say The Thing is barely in it and "what is the point of that character anyway, he just hits stuff", so I've been avoiding it for that reason. Shows a real lack of understanding of the source material to underutilize the most important character in the group.

This wasn't about making money, it was about restoring the Fantastic Four brand after Josh Trank destroyed it with the trankverse, stupid trankjeet

I'm sure they made a profit, but it was probably a disappointment in the sense that it wasn't the big return to form they hoped it would be.

It was a fun flick, I'm glad it made a profit, much more enjoyable movie than Thunderbolts.Although Sentry is an absolute CHAD.

you're right
however the question is, if a movie takes 2 years and costs $200 million to make, if you had taken that money and put it elsewhere in some other investment, would you have made more or less. If you would have made more in some business investment, mutual fund, bitcoin, mushroom nft or other, then why make the movie?

Idiots will never understand itโ€™s not about the total box office numbers when it comes to franchises. What is concerning the MCU is F4โ€™s 68% second weekend drop. Almost all recent MCU movies have been front loaded with only hardcore MCU fans showing up opening weekend. That is not a sustainable model. Especially when this movie was suppose to build up for Doomsday

I suppose they think it's a better chance of doing better than breaking even. At least that's the investor's perspective. The artists work on it because they get paid. It's not a risk for them. Thus the idea that the film could flop, even though everyone who worked on it already has their money other than the investors is a dishonest turn of phrase. The money changed hands, the money didn't disappear.

That would be true if this was a stand alone movie and not a future franchise that was suppose to build interest to a movie theyโ€™ve dumped already a ridiculous amount of money into.
MCU and Disney cannot be happy right now with the result. Even worse, there is nothing else coming out to lead into Doomsday witch isnโ€™t coming out until next December

Captain America the Winter Soldier is widely considered to be the best movie Marvel ever other than Endgame and it made 700 Million worldwide, so ya I'd say 500 Million is pretty dam good.

Dropping 68% your second weekend is not a success either. Especially for a future franchise. If it wasnโ€™t tied up with Doomsday, likely there would not be anymore F4. Guarantee there wonโ€™t be anymore F4 stand alone movies

Put it this way. Solo's 400 million was seen as such a disaster it completely changed Disney's plans for Star Wars and it's never recovered. 500m isn't a flop, but for a movie leading into a tent pole movie, it doesn't fill anyone with confidence.
Anonymous No.214224063
Disney probably sent a bunch of goons to the theaters and bought their own tickets.
Anonymous No.214224084
Captain Negro Man had a similar second weekend drop. They wonโ€™t be doing anymore. Next time we see a Captain America movie it will be a reboot with a new Steve

it's unreasonable for people to think they'll get pre covid numbers again after everyone was spoiled by being at home. The only reason to go to the theatre now is to scream and shit at chicken jockeys and make those minimum wagies clean it up.

Tell me movies which dropped off a cliff like that which git direct sequels without major overhauls? Almost a guarantee the follow up movie will under perform. Ang Leeโ€™s Hulk dropped 69%. Ed Norton follow up bombed. Suicide Squad dropped 68%. The follow up under performs because nobody wanted to see another one.

Here's my outline for the F4 franchise from here

-TV show "The Fantastic Four", no subtitle.
-airs on ABC, not exclusive to Disney+
-1 hour long episodes
-everyone is recast with cheap TV actors
-Thing is a very large, craggy faced older actor from somewhere in the Northeast, able to do a real NYC accent and vibe

Special effects
-Practical and convenient Thing-suit for filming (shot on digital). Then rough passed over with television-grade CGI, then finished with a custom made Thing-model in A.I. Same process used for other characters as needed.
-Johnny and Sue use TV-grade special effects
-Reed's powers will look hokey, there's no getting around it. Just do it and live with it.
-Dr. Doom costume is a well made armor the actor can get in and out of easily.

The show focuses on the story and characters over the spectacle. It's monster of the week with an ongoing mystery arc.

This, if they invest in coming back bigger next time and get a trilogy out of it that's well-written, it's all worth it. Earning 3x your budget isn't bad in that context.

They finally got the CG for Ben Grimm right.

Its not a flop. But its not a giga wow billion dollar movie either. That's what Marvel and the industry wants. Big billion dollar makers. They're putting out movies and they're making a profit. But not like they were. So its all doom and gloom because the super sweet times are over. Now everything just does okay. But again, just doing okay doesn't satisfy Hollywood greed

Hollywood is the one business I want the government to go full Jew fascist on and enforce the bullshit laws on the books about making investors money and having the irs, fbi, and every alphabet letter niggers breath down their fucking neck making them account for every mother fucking penny spent.
I wanna see the actual expenses. I wanna see legitimate total cost before and after advertising and I want every fucking penny on advertising accounted for with receipts.

Is this antisemitic? To the rational normie no. But to whoever it does consider it antisemitism, my reply to you;heil fucking hitler.

It's mindboggling the MCU not only adapted Sentry better than comics have done for years, but also turned Yelena into the most powerful woman on Earth.

>sister to a founding Avenger
>daughter to an overseas Captain America, even if Red Guardian would be the one hyping that up
>turned the CIA chief into her bitch and has a Senator as a co-worker
>She has the world's most powerful man as her bf. Unofficially, but don't tell me their scenes wouldn't look hella gay if Yelena was male and everything else was the same. And Bob's comics wife not being adapted at all shouldn't be a coincidence.
