It was bad not because of his lack of knowledge regarding video games but because of his seeming lack of knowledge regarding commonplace imagery
he implied that certain imagery he talked about was due to muh racism or muh colonialism (e.g. skin removal and crystals, and the numerous nature of fed rods systems) when they clearly had different roots
the skin removal and inanimate objects bursting from within being very generic dehumanisation imagery and the idea of "mass of worse weapons" being american exceptialist cold war imagery of smaller in number but superior in quality american troops vs the subhuman commie masses
the reason why he missed these is probably because of his heavy focus on the idea of storytelling itself and modern deconstructionism blinding him to basic art concepts because he isn't looking at the imagery presented as a whole and what is being conveyed by it, but rather trying to derive ulterior motives and meanings from only parts of it (i.e. deconstructionism) which is why he focused on the "white" and "black" in the skin-crystals part
he also less severely misinterpreted a handful of generic military/heroic imagery
I have no idea what his educational background is, but if it was in art or even film, I would personally ask for a refund
