Bros, is tv ending gonna stay the only ending we would get?
Anonymous No.214236042 >>214236118 >>214236167 >>214240027
the series ending is gonna be mostly the same as the book ending. him seeing how nobody liked it, probably discouraged him from writing it through.

That's not possible. He gets rid of major characters in every book he wrote. Notice how in later seasons of the show they forgot to kill off the characters everyone liked like in previous seasons.

The ending was the best part d&d just fucked up the delivery. Danerys only though the part with Bran was gay

>He gets rid of major characters in every book he wrote
that's also a reason he's stuck, at some point you can't do that anymore
Anonymous No.214236219
He can still subvert everyone's expectations if he makes John Snow a good king like Aragorn, Danerys his submissive wife, and Bran his court wizard.

He constantly writes pages and pages and see where that takes him, then redo it over and over until something sticks. People say he's lying about writing but I genuinely believe he written constantly for the past 20 years and he just cant find anything he likes that will undo the damage of the TV show. He wrotes 75% of the book then gets stuck because one POV doesnt work with the plot he wrote so he trims half, rewrite it, gets stuck on another POV...

He is just old, rich and famous and doesn't want to spend his last years on some book most fans probably won't even like. Don't forget that not only last seasons of the show were hated, but last two books too

Doesn't matter, the basic ending at kings landing from the show is still possible and his intention
At some point you'll need to stop coping

Show ended 6 years ago
Last book came out 14 years ago
It's over
Still caring at this point is a fool's errand

The tv ending is the official ending. He gave it to others to finish the main story so it can not be changed.
He just needs to come at it at a different angle to answer a few lingering mysteries. Maybe a sci-fi approach could explain the starbucks cups and respawning dothraki that is official canon for the asoiaf books.

Have you tried writing?
Some times you just re-read your shit and to delete parts of it, because you know you can do better

Ok let's say it is like that, If only he kept 1 single page out of everything he wrote each day he would now have around 5.1k pages worth of stuff. A Dance with Dragons had 1.1k pages (and they mostly sucked anyway) so those could be 4 meaty books. Let's halve all that because of stress, breaks etc and it would still be 2 full books.

Martin doesn't write at constant pace so those page per day counts are bullshit, he could actually write pretty fast if he got an inspiration, for example according to his progress notes he posted online he wrote 21 out of 73 chapters of book 5 during last year
Anonymous No.214237399
>>214237004
It's also misleading because he does a lot of editing during the writing process, and he doesn't count a page as "done" until he's happy with the edits. So sometimes he'll say "I wrote three chapters this week!" when he means that he moved three chapters from the almost-done pile to the finished pile.

as a writer I can tell you that its most likely that he has already finished the story in his head. Once you do that it can be incredibly difficult to motivate yourself into continuing writing. A creative mind loses its spark once its finished conceptualizing the idea and wants to move on to something different whether you have pen to paper on the idea or not.

add that to him gaining immense wealth in the last 1/3 of his life and the ending of his story technically already being out there thanks to the show, and it shouldn't be difficult to see why the books are never coming out.

Yes.
George doesn’t know what he believes or what his story is about, so it’s natural he cannot finish the ending. Accept the show ending as the only ending and forget the whole mess except as a cautionary tale.
