It has less to do with influencing them and more like this propaganda is shat out to convince the average person and provide a thing politicians can point to without just being honest and saying "look we hate you and view you as niggers and want to censor and control you so we need a pretext to do that". Instead they wanna be controlling cunts like typical politicians. So this is tossed out to give the vague pretense of there being some broader popular demand or greater good and their hands are tied and this is for your own good.
