I'm of the fringe opinion that KPDH would actually work a lot better if it didn't get any shitty sequels or shows and simply got a big budget live-action remake 10-20 years down the line. I think there's three ways you could go with it.
>1st option
Have it be basically the same as the first movie in terms of tone/structure, but simply leave in that hour or so of shit that Netflix cut out that fleshes out the characters/setting/plot better. Get rid of the vast majority of the quirk chungus shit in the first half of the movie and let the sotry breathe a bit more and the tones gel better. Give it a PG-13 rating, and boom you've got yourself a massive theatrical hit.
>2nd option
Have it go full-on into the comedy in the vein of an over the top Naked Gun/Hot Shots laffaminit parody of all things East Asian pop culture to the point of being borderline offensive; have it be on the bubble of PG-13/R with an unrated cut. Probably wouldn't be as popular and a bit controversial but would definitely be a hit.
>Option 3
Go full on into the darker, more serious elements of both the fantasy and music industry elements of the film; to where it becomes basically a more action-oriented version of The Wall or Perfect Blue, focusing mostly on Rumi and her struggles. Have there be some dark shit involving Bobby abusing the girls in various ways like a typical K-pop producer or the girls having issues with drug use and plastic surgery, with the doctor having a bigger and more malicious role. Distort the initially comedic obsession of the fans into something darker like those aforementioned films, and have the demons represent bigger concepts and ideas or have struggles that mirror those of the MCs. Just go all-in to making it this really bizarre, abrasive action thriller with surrealist/psychological elements that seems to be similar to the original at first and then goes all-in the more and more it goes on. It'd be a tougher sell but likely get a cult audience.
