I have never understood why Chase thought it was a good idea to pander to the BLM crowd, when most of them were never really mafia flick aficionados in the first place.

Everyone wanted to see prime Tony fucking around with Dickie and not anything else. I dont think people would've minded racial commentary in subtext, but it definitely shouldn't have been the focus for the entire second half of the movie. And it made no sense too - the Italian mafia have always historically beefed with the Irish/Jewish mob, niggers were always an afterthought.

I just skimmed on the night it dropped and saw lots of niggers mating so I said โ€œSopranos?โ€ out loud to myself and shut it off. That sissy weirdo pussy Chase should troon out and hang himself already. Clearly nothing that made Sopranos good had anything to do with him. He probably just raped child prostitutes behind the scenes while everyone else did the work until it was time for A Hit is a Hit and he started gooning to all the african poop-bodies on screen like lois CK. LeBron James loved the Sopranos (allegedly according to himself) but yeah I've never heard or seen any other nigga or BLM ytboi talk about that show at all. Was weird that he pandered so hard to a group that turned out to be a massive fraud on 2025's hindsight.

>>214251266
Second half of the movie was basically about some racial riots that took place in 50s and the POV shifted from Dickie to a random Black dude, and there was a huge tonal shift that went from your usual "ey pass da gabagool" mob movie to "awww poor blacks, racism bad btw!"

No, I have not recovered. Before TMSON, I thought Chase was a genius filmmaker.
TMSON made me abandon the "Tony gets shot" "all the clues are there" theory. It hinges on Chase being an intelligent, coherent, and highly detailed filmmaker like Kubrick, yet his film retcons, contradicts, and forgets almost every aspect of the show it touches upon. He couldn't even get scenes that were already shown as flashbacks right. So it makes no sense that he made S6 as a subtly foreshadowed, meticulously planned leadup to a shooting scene. All the "clues" are just red herrings like the Russian or the fortune teller. Ending theories give him too much credit, he just made the most contentious ending in history then started leaning into audience theories to make himself look good.

>Second half of the movie was basically about some racial riots
The riots are in the first 20 minutes of the movie, then they're completely forgotten. I don't know why people keep saying he was only shoehorning The Sopranos into a Newark Riots film. The riots are barely in it at all. It's more of a peak woke era movie that has nothing to do with its claimed subject matter. It's not about The Sopranos, and it's not even about the riots. I don't see how his cuck fantasies represent the historical reality of race relations back then, so it's not even about that. It's so shitty you'd think AI wrote it, but that still wouldn't explain all the other failed choices made in the film.

Movie was terrible. Chase grew up during the riots and wanted to make a movie about that. Wasn't allowed to without attaching The Sopranos to it. I think he got bitter and made this, but I also think he's simply tired and old and out of touch. He also did have a ton of other talented people surrounding him for The Sopranos, not so much here.

A lot of the subtext in the original Sopranos show is pretty left leaning but the audience at the time ALWAYS interpreted it the other way around no matter how on the nose they tried to make it (while still keeping some subtleity and tastefulness). I guess David Chase made the move that way because of that, he didn't want a chance in hell to have his work get misinterpreted again.

Chase had already written a script about the Newark riots that he couldn't sell at any studio, so he stuck some Sopranos characters in there and changed almost nothing else. Which is extra funny when you think about it, considering the black dude was supposed to be the main character but he has no personality and does nothing interesting with or without the Sopranos hook. I can't even remember his name.

The riots are barely in the movie though. That's not it. This is a cope invented by reddit to avoid admitting the harsh reality that Chase isn't as talented as everyone thought he was.
Anonymous No.214258250
It was just bland. Wasn't bad but definitely wasn't good. Just pretty damn boring. I think the fact that it's connected to the Sopranos is what really hurts it because it feels like a nothing special mediocre mobster movie that some Indy fuck made, but decided at the last minute to cash in on the popularity of the Sopranos. I mean you can pretty easily remove any of the Sopranos references and get a stand alone movie. No lie I fell asleep about halfway through that's how bad it was but part of it was because I was watching it on my phone instead of a TV. But that just goes to show that a movie doesn't have to be bad on a technical scale to suck. At least with bad movies maybe you could still find some enjoyment out of them or at least have something to talk about. But I can hardly remember what went on in this movie
