In the US that may be, idk, but I'm in Europe and it's the same exact thing here. Around 2012-ish, and definitely in full swing by 2014, it became normal and expected for guys to be into big asses to the point where if you weren't into it you were considered gay or someone with an erectile disfunction or things like that.
Obviously people who liked asses existed before. Of course. But it was 1) only ONE of possible attractions, with people perfectly understanding that different people can be into different things when it comes to girls, and 2) NSFW stuff like this was not supposed to spill into SFW contexts before. Yes, boobs and asses were considered sexy for the entire duration of humanity, duh. But there was a time and place for sexuality. In 2010s it became "normal" to be degenerates obsessed with big asses even in very safe-for-work, all-ages contexts. And also, for example, yes, I like it when fictional characters are physically attractive (in one way or another), duh, but never before have I seen such insane levels of "AAARRRRGGGHHHH why does this videogame chick have an ass that is smaller than a dump truck?!!!" pouring from fucking everywhere. Not just from terminally online people, but irl too.
It was never this way with boobs even when boobs were the more typical display of female sexuality. You weren't supposed to be a horny retard for boobs to this degree. You weren't supposed to drag this into relatively sfw-ish contexts. And people who were into big boobs were much more reasonable and understood well that different people have different tastes.
The early 2010s ass programming is 100% a real thing.
Also, for context, I'm in my early 30s nowadays, and a girl some 10 years younger than me told me (IRL, 100% seriously) that I'm an outdated out of touch boomer for not liking huge asses and that this is what a man is supposed to like nowadays, and that I come off as a huge creep and some pervert if I don't.
