What the Hell happened?
>Halloween 2018
Decent sequel, great soundtrack and Michael, the bringing back the original cast gimmick was new and engaged audiences, good scares and climax. Still watchable on its own.
>Halloween Kills
The script went full retard and the movie has many of the worst and silliest scenes in the entire series, but if you only want to see Michael killing people you'll probably have a good time.
>Halloween Ends
What the fuck happened here? None of the story threads of the prior two are continued, the new cast are marginalized in favor of a new character who is himself tossed aside so that JLC can kill Michael. I'd say it was a complete missed shot, but I have so little idea what they were thinking that maybe this really was what they were going for and it was executed perfectly.

No it wasn't.

Carpenter decided he wanted to take the franchise to the grave

Carpenter's involvement in Halloween sequels is getting paychecks every time they're announced. He was more involved in this trilogy than usual, but only to the extent of doing their soundtracks.

Should have went with the original ending. In any case, I don't think it holds up well.

As much as Carpenter has disowned Halloween II, it is still the best Michael Myers sequel.

i just watched every halloween movie in release order and i fully agree with your assessment of these three. 2018 was a good reboot which i enjoyed. "michael killing people" was executed fairly well in Kills, even if not much else was. Ends was just baffling with the babysitter team up with michael. a shitload of time was spent on that character that ultimately went nowhere. my ultimate final ranking:

halloween (1978) > halloween (2007) > halloween II (1981) > halloween (2018) > halloween IV > halloween H20 > halloween II (2009) > halloween V > halloween kills > halloween III > halloween resurrection > halloween VI > halloween ends

is halloween the best slasher franchise? i'd rate at least four, maybe five of the movies as "good-to-great"

Original is obviously a classic but it seems like a spotty batting average to me. Nightmare on Elm Street is more consistent, i'd argue only Freddy's Dead and the remake are truly bad

The Friday the 13th movies are entirely consistent excepto for maybe Jason goes to hell and 5. Even the reboot was decent by the franchise standards

Halloween 2018 is pretty good and Halloween Ends had the foundation for a really good movie, though I appreciate it for what it tried to do. Itโ€™s Halloween Kills that really sucks.

Garbage sequel, but in line with many of the other garbage sequels
>Halloween Kills
Holy shit. This is a literal 0/10. At least there is no possible way to get worse than this
>Halloween Ends
Hold my beer. I'm about to show Busta Rhymes how to truly rape the corpse of a franchise

After this and Exorcist Slopiever, David Gordon Green has somehow, against all odds, managed to sink his career for a SECOND time.

i really enjoyed all the major franchise reboots. F13th 2009 was fantastic, loved halloween 2007 and i even enjoyed the nightmare on elm street remake. jackie earle hailey was unsettling as fuck as freddy in a much different way than englund. robert was clearly having fun with the role while JEH was trying to be as unhinged as possible. i don't know why that movie got so much shit

I liked Ends more than Kills if only because it had something to offer as a story other than meme fuel, but even 2018 is merely okay.

It's probably Nightmare. It's best entries are better than any of the best from the other series. It's worst (remake excluded) are never Halloween Ends or Jason Goes To Hell bad. It feels somewhat like a cheat though, as it worked with larger budgets and higher level talent behind the scenes and they were heavy VFX pictures, bordering on fantasy/sci-fi.

Child's Play is probably the most consistent in quality across the board, but I don't think any entry, even the first one, reach the same levels as the best of Halloween or Nightmare.

The TCM reboot was fantastic. The Friday reboot was fine (same director). But I have to disagree with the Nightmare reboot. One of the worst movies I have ever seen in a theater. Conceptually it was okay, great cast. But the director (who seemed like a good pick on paper) genuinely can't direct narrative films. It was like watching sloppily stuck together behind the scenes footage. Just basic suspension of disbelief mechanics that even bad TV can get right. Not surprises it was his first and last feature.

On a related note. Why is the franchise dead? Is it in a legal limbo like f13 or no one wants to bother with it since Wes is dead and Englund is old as shit?

Watching her at the publicity events for this was pure cringe. Her insistence on turning it into a feminist story and that troon who said her character inspired him to fight back against an abuser before running up to hug her was terrible. It was worse than Busta Rhymes

It will only happen if there is demand and there is no demand.

Why do you even want a new NES film anyways? We should be pushing for new unique slasher films and not rehashing old shit from the 80s.

I donโ€™t really care about a new elm street movie (a new Friday the 13th movie would be nice though). Iโ€™m just surprised that almost every other popular slasher from that time period is still getting milked except for elm street.

I googled it, it is because of a rights thing.

Craven's estate owns the domestic rights to NES, while NLM owns the international rights. Basically, if NLC wanted to make a NES movie it would have to be released everywhere but America. Unless NLC can make a deal with Craven's estate.

elm street is highly dependent on robert englund as freddy in a way TCM/halloween/F13th aren't. they have the luxury of silent protagonists who wear masks. i think this is why hellraiser fell by the wayside too (besides the fact that the franchise only has 1.5 good movies) - doug bradley just IS hellraiser.

Hellraiser was never intended to be a slasher franchise, retard directors took over after the first movie and took it in that direction. There should have never been a franchise, only one movie was needed to deliver the message it wanted to deliver.

The remake was so atrociously bad that it killed the Platinum Dunes remake train and more Freddy movies. A big hold up is that Freddy movies cost substantially more to make than others, and you have to cast a real actor to play Freddy and fans want the performances to be similar. As opposed to just finding a wrestler or stuntman for Michael/Jason

Halloween Kills was a mistake. Introduce Cory in the first movie, then have it end with the house fire and everyone thinking Michael died there, explaining why Laurie has inexplicably let her guard down after being obesssed for FORTY YEARS. Corey finds Michael in the sewers and the rest proceeds as it did.
