To be fair he usually only sells out when it's as a favor or when he's promised control. Like the BBC doc he was allowed to direct, or doing Cheap Thrills because he was in love with Janis. He turned down offers to do SNL or do Rolling Stones covers because he didn't like them. The Crumb doc he did because the director was one of his closest friends who was in his band and the guy was struggling with a back injury that was making him suicidal. And it did earn that guy a directing career, so the favor paid off.

The most frightening thing about that documentary is realizing Bob was the least talented artist of the 3 brothers but most successful because as fucked up as he is, Bob was somehow the most socially developed.
