I'm surprised the script was approved...

- The overarching plot outline involving the zombie, Isaac, Thing, and Gomez was good, but the Tyler and his mother should have been a unrelated
- It's clear scenes were shot before they decided how they were going to piece them together. Episode 5 and 6 were the worst for this. Pugsley and Gomez go searching for Slurp until dark and meet the Jericho attendees, then it cuts back to the Sheriff investigating the sewer entrance and it's daytime again. And in the later episodes you had Grandmumma in one scene, leave, then come back immediately for another scene.
- There was too much plot baggage carried on over from the first season. Ideally they would have just dropped the Hyde plot, or at least made Tyler less central to the story. It would be so easy to write a redemption subplot for him independent of the main story.
- The whole Morning Song plot was a huge letdown too. A waste of Steve Buscemi and Casper van Dien's characters. They should have just scrapped that entirely. There are so many other easy to conceive of cool ideas involving pyromantic principal...
- The cast is too stacked in general. And it's not like they didn't have the runtime to spare, they just wasted it on frivolous things. Episode 6 with the kpop thing was essentially just an episode of filler. The exact same episode would have been half-decent had they not already wasted so much of the previous episodes' runtimes on filler, but as it was it just felt a little bit egregious.
- They wasted the Jericho set so hard.

- They sidelined Enid, which would have been ok if they didn't waste her in an inane romance plot that went nowhere.
- What the heck was the point of Billie Piper's character for that matter. Waited the entire season for her to do something and she got nothing to do.
- It seems like they're going to be carrying on the same plot threads to the next season too... like come on we don't need anymore of the raven lady, her story is finished... write a new mystery...

So many problems with the show. The scenes felt disconnected and never really fit together cohesively.
Jenna Ortega and Evie Templeton carried this season so hard, especially the latter. Gwendoline Christie was great too. Everything else was pretty bad. It felt like a show made for actors' enjoyment rather than a good show in its own right, like the first season was.

Here's my take on this. Because of the writers strike, Covid, and Jenna wanting to do other shit. The first season was legitimately made to also be enjoyed by men.
The second season was a mess that did feel a lot more infantile, and indeed had a lot of unnecessary GRRL power moments that seemed to come from a place of insecurity.

They waited until episode 5 to randomly loredump the whole alpha werewolf thing that felt like a lazy last minute plot device. Wednesday randomly being allergic to colour, introduced all of sudden and didn't really serve any greater purpose either. The last Gaga Rotwood Raven plot, also lazy. The le female Hyde is stronger than the male Hyde again plot loredumped out of nowhere, didn't really serve any plot purpose but as a grrl power, and then later invalidated anyway because his mother was sicker, weaker, and died in a 1 on 1.

I really don't understand the writers this season. I can only assume they had insert a billion things into the script because the show got so popular everyone and their mothers wanted to leave their own mark on the show.

It's not that complicated. It's a show about sticking a pair of attractive, petite young white girls into tailored schoolgirl uniforms and a procession of cute and thinly sexualized costumes, applying post-processing to make them credibly look like 16-year olds, and then giving them as much screentime as possible. Then even proceeded to add another attractive young white girl to the main cast who's actually 16.

The actual content of their adventures/drama is secondary.

The show employs hundreds of other people besides her, all of whom know that it can't go forward without her. She may not care if the show gets renewed or not and is perfectly fine walking away, but you keep that behind closed doors to ensure a good working environment. You clearly have no idea what being an actor entails.

To reiterate others' posts, the show has a problem with a casual disregard for life. Lives are lost and very little fanfare is made. This is conceptually flawed because it lowers the stakes tremendously. If the characters simply don't care that their principals, teachers, fellow students or even just innocent 'normies' get mowed down, you as the viewer also don't care. We're supposed to be perturbed at the thought that Enid might die, but why would we? We've seen such a vast amount of genuinely innocent people killed for no other reason than 'there's a plot device on the loose'.

There's a certain malicious streak in the series as well with regards to its treatment of male characters that rubs me the wrong way. The key example is the sheriff from season one. In season two he is retconned via Wednesday's quips to have been absolutely pathetic, useless, etc, even though he was 'on her side' more often than not (far more than the fat black sheriff from s2 who has such a painfully small role, she might as well not be there at all). We are supposed to think he's bad because he tried to protect Tyler (?) because he didn't shut down the outcast asylum (?) because he had struggles with alcoholism (?). That kind of moralising feels very tacked-on after the fact. The sheriff was an element that helped to ground the series - him being there showed that there were at least some stakes, Gomez was arrested, after all. With him gone, just about anything goes. Like in Whose Line is it Anyway, 'Everything's made up and the points don't matter; Another example is of course Tyler - the most raped individual in the series - but it's clear that he's being set up for an eventual redemption whereby he will likely die to save Wednesday because the writers are fucking hacks.

One consistent compliment I can give the show, though, its set design is lovely and it has little sparks of aesthetic brilliance - the writers do nothing with said design, really, but it's there.

Forcing the whole family into everything was dumb.
New characters were annoying.
The ugly black chick got more screentime than she deserved.
And most importantly: Pugsly wasn't even fat.

I mean there's that, but also there's the weaker writing, the disjointed mess that was the plot, wasted characters like the sheriff, the crappy acting from side characters like pugsley and bianca, the huge time gap between seasons, etc. They made lots of mistakes with season 2.

Granted season 1 was flawed as well but it was way more coherent and the tiktok dance gave it another boost. I also feel it had a certain charm to it that was lost in season 2.

All of their "too cool for school" caricature personalities fall apart when you just imagine the shits they have to take when suffering from crippling diarrhea. Enid's sunny disposition goes flat when trying to force out a fat log, Wednesday's tryhard goth thing cracks and Agnes has to turn invisible so no one will see what expressions she makes when shitting but we can still see those bricks turn visible after they leave her body and are no longer in contact with her (I assume that's how it works).

The freaky friday shit alone is getting millions of views and engagement. The show works by being comfy and not taking itself too seriously more than anything else. Wednesday solves crimes and stops murderers even though she's supposed to be a psychotic and sadistic misanthrope, Thing can get drunk and aim a crossbow despite just being a hand and the viewer just goes with it because the show can't be bothered getting bogged down in explanations and excuses.

Sounds like a lot of the same problems that the first season had.
Aesthetically the show is good and quite comfy but the decision to effectively have Wednesday being a normie in a school full of supernatural beings was fucking retarded and likely an excuse to cram a bunch of CGI into the show. I'll watch it when I get around to it but I don't have much in the way of excitement for it.

Season 3 seems like it will go full focus on the Enid situation along with whatever local bs is happening and since they introduced Agnes she will likely be nearby enough to help out as there are hints that she is rich and can handle flying out to wherever Wednesday is
Her dad probably did some business bullshit that resulted in innocent people getting hurt which connects Enids location and the new villain/old villian to the new setting.
By eliminating the castle and most of the cast it allows us them to spend more money on special effects so I expect a ton of it and not just on Snood but more insane forest stuff

Netflix should grow some balls and do what they never did with Stranger Things and make a spinoff after the 2nd season to give some of the more popular side characters room to breathe so they don't just keep stacking them on top of each other in subsequent seasons. Give it to a group of writers not affiliated with Wednesday and let them take it in another direction. An Agnes and Snood show without Wednesday would be kino and can help flesh out stories for season 3. Hell, an Uncle Fester, Pugsly, random Addams Family member spinoff might help get rid of the bloat in Wednesday as well.

Understandable, but I would argue there's a difference in expectations between an obviously comical cartoon versus a more self-serious live-action adaptation. If the show's framing was one of there being no stakes, that'd be fine. It'd just be a cartoon, but the writers want you to think there's the possibility of characters losing. The arc with Wednesday's premonition about Snood, for instance (it went nowhere, but they wanted you to think Snood might actually die). As I posted, the show has shown that there can b consequences for illegal actions as Gomez was arrested for suspected murder. So what I'm trying to say is the show is in a weird limbo where it tries to balance realism with cartoon-logic but ultimately fails because the two cannot really be reconciled.
