S9 is the last watchable season.
Some people will say it turned to shit after the movie but it was already shot by then.
The movie is fucking terrible too, obviously.

As someone who watched all episodes from season 1-10 in a month, the decline started with Who Shot Mr. Burns part 2.

Seasons 3,4,5 were absolute peak.

It's watchable but it's not that good. Most of the jokes were rewritten for normalfag appeal. They mention on the commentary they had dozens of test screenings and kept changing things because non-Simpson fans didn't understand. The end result is half the gags are something basic like "lol Homer gets hurt" or random pop culture references like Spider-Pig. Stuff that appeals to the lowest common denominator. Being "not as shit as zombie Simpsons" is hardly a ringing endorsement.

Thereโ€™s a silver era that lasts until around season 15 or 16, then a period where only the Treehouse of Horror episodes are good, then a completely irredeemable period that lasts until today.

The fact that they used Arnold Schwarzenegger as the president instead of Rainier Wolfcastle make this abundantly clear.

The movie's fucking bad and has that problem of "modern" Simpsons where the rhythm and delivery of jokes feels forced, like the writers know the show isn't funny and are hoping for a pity laugh.
>>214279462
That shitty gag and the marketing around it was unbearable, emblematic of the bad joke and gag delivery the franchise had at that point.

You would think the writers had enough clout to tell Fox execs to fuck off and keep Wolfcastle as he was, because you'd have to be living under a rock to not see he was already an Arnold parody and had been in the show for over a decade by 2007.

I disagree. It's not as tightly written as 4-8 but it still has its moments. Remember, back in the day, you could make a show that had a shaky first season or two and let it grow and evolve, not like now where everything has to be dialed in and executive noted to shit.

Not quite. There's good episodes, but season 2 especially has an issue where some episodes drag and get really saccharine.
Anonymous No.214282448 >>214282590

You have to understand, while we see the first couple seasons as kind of shaky now, the show was a phenomenon those first couple years - Bartmania. It was no joke. It is also pretty much a one of a kind success story; many shows tried and failed to emulate its success during primetime television (Fish Police, Capitol Critters, Family Dog, etc., etc.). S1-2 are absolutely still good enough on their own, it's just that S4-8 are so fucking good that they outshine the first three seasons (perhaps unfairly) and S10 and beyond (fairly).

S3 is kind of a mixed bag. S3 has stuff like The Otto Show, which is honestly one of my least favorite Simpsons episodes (judging it against other classic era episodes), it's a pure fever dream of an episode and not in a good way.

After most of the original writers left to Futurama, that period futurama was great
With time futurama became meh, neither bad or great. I'm assuming because they got out of ideas, fhe writers fuck offf elsewhere or died
