Berserk is great but it has never been adapted properly, all adaptations have either ended before or completely avoided adapting the Black Swordsman and Lost Children arcs which are instrumental to Guts' development and his choices in the Conviction arc, and the only adaptation to ever adapt anything past the Golden Age arc was so poorly done and cheap it was a massive insult to the fandom, the 1997 adaptation is ok but it only covers a very abridged version of the Golden Age and omits the Skull Knight from the Eclipse, but the last of the 2000s movies fixes this and is way better animated than the first two.

It's true. I own the first 5 deluxe volumes of the manga and even I admit the anime omits the worst parts of the Golden Age arc (Wyald, the father/daughter incest) and creates something beautifully self-contained without a Skull Knight ex machina and some of the most painterly frames ever put to the medium. Don't @ me
