When I was a kid I thought it was just a dumb stoner movie.
But now, older and wiser, and having read every Philip Marlowe novel, I can fully appreciate its genious as one of the best detective movies of all time.

Coens weren't involved beyond giving their blessing. Turturro made it himself, and if you've seen his other movies you know they really aren't for everyone. I don't know who they're for. Just him I guess. People do him favors and act in them for little money. I love Turturro the actor but he's not my kind of auteur.
