So, the entire show - and I consider A Year in Life to be canon - was basically about how one fails due to his own hybris despite having been given all the tools to succeed in life?

Also, Gilrmore Girls thread

>and I consider A Year in Life to be canon
Is it not?

Also, it's amazing how much of a fuck-up Rory already was before the original show ended. At least Lorelai was aware that she was damaged.

I say yes but cry babies who refuse to accept it that Rory eventually became a wine aunt may pretend otherwise.

But what do the creators say? Wasn't it the original writers who also made the new show? If they say it's canon it's canon, no matter what anyone might wish for.

Has anyone tried the Gilmore girls reading challenge? Rory would be a literature professor right out of high school if she read that much.

I mean, literature is one of the easiest and most retarded majors, so why should it not be possible? The bigger problem is that would really need to be into reading, and slog through the retarded for-women bullshit she reads.

I don't know, some are classics and while it might be easier than stem it doesn't change that she read them before college in high school. This was during living life and consuming all the other pop culture her mom thrived on.

We never actually see that. Rory was basically a sperg, she probably spent every single offscreen second reading.

is it ever explained why thousands of blacks moved to Stars Hollow in the years between S7 and A Year in the Life?

Well, I don't know who exactly the "creators" are but Amy Sherman-Palladino who wrote the majority of the story did also write the movie screenplays. However, it's not that simple. It is known that past around season 3 the network managers told Sherman-Palladino in which direction the story should develope. This was the reason the show got filled with on-off romances in a Sex and the City fashion.
However, when the producers apporached Sherman-Palladino to write the screenplays for the movies, she said she insisted to do it her way. So I guess it is safe to say that the movies show the original round up of the story.

She grew up to be exactly as her mother except at the point where her mother had a kid graduating university she was still single. childless and without a job.

She grew up worse than her mother. Lorelei was the one to call her out for being a homewrecker.

Lorelai maybe called her out but she wasn't better either. She sabotaged Luke's relationship with Rachel, with Nicole, cheated on him because they had an argument. She even tried to tell him he's not allowed to date a Chilton Mom. She ditched Max Medina and approached him again while he was in a new relationship. She hit on Christopher after she heard that he moved in with Sherry,

It's like Emily said, Lorelai always wanted to live in a soap opera and never thought of the consequences for other people.

Without a doubt. Rory's character just degenerated so quickly that it always seemed worse. I really liked the townspeople's side stories in the later seasons.

tbf Rory's character became degenerate the moment she met Jess. Even Chilton Rory was a hypocrat. remember the way she reacted when she found out that Lane became a cheerleader or one of the dozens of times when she told Dean that she doesn't share any of his interest and refused to attend any of his games because she felt like this was a complete waste of time and that her time was more valueable than any other people's.

People shit on the show and the downfall of Rory but i see it as one of the more interesting things. People like her exist and holy fuck are they terrible people. Her turning out to be a loser is one of the most realistic things about the small town girl genius who is also pretty. Lane funny enough seems to come out better, sure her dream of being a rockstar is over but she has a loving family, her own house, a husband who loves her and she mended her relationship with her own mother.

nothing characterizes Rory better than the scene where she writes an article about the uptown society to which Logan invited her and she mocks everybody for the bourgeoise crap before Logan calls her out for being part of it, not some poor kid from the hood how had to fight for everything in life as she likes to picture herself.

Is there anyone who watched the show very closely? There's one major inconsistency I noticed regarding Lorelai. At multiple occasions it is said that Lorelai had such great potential, that she was an excellent student, that she would follow her father's footsteps to Yale etc. And that only the teen pregnancy was the one issue where she threw her entire future away.
Yet Lorelai didn't get pregnant before 16, I believe in one scene it is said that she was very late state pregnancy so she couldn't attend prom. So she wasn't much older than Rory when finishing Chilton.
Adult Lorelai doesn't seem smart though. She struggles with her management class, she doesn't speak any foreign language (we're been told about Italian, French, Spanish (Café au Lait), German, Latin). She has a poor reading comprehension (struggling with Proust, manuals, fishing books, etc).

So, how was this ever explained in the show?

It's knda funny that I noticed pretty early that everyone in the show became eventually exact like his parents, even Lorelai who kept controlling Rory even after she grew up (picking Harvard, "forbidding" her quit Yale, etc) except Lane who apprently seemed to have broken the streak. Until I realized that Lane in a sort also followed her mother's steps who revolted against her parents and picked Christianity over Buddhism(?) and still hiding her belief for when her mom visited her once in a decade.
Lane marrying a non-Korean isn't much more of an issue than Lane's mom moving to the states.

what the hell did you expect from Murrican education where whenever someone mentions his smart son/daughter/neice/nephew people asking whether it's gonna be law school or business school.
Read Emmanuel Todd Defeat of the West about how the United States completely - and willingly - throw their intellectual potential down the drain for higher ad hoc profit.
