Impressive built for a woman, but I doubt she can take me head on. I actually don't mind Lara's parents being dead (instead of out of the picture) and also a person-shaping experience happening very early in her life. These parts actually make for a cleaner story imo. You could even tweak Classic Lara to have this kind of backstory.
The hyperfocus on the parents and the goody two shoes alignment is the really bad part. The *actual backstory* (not what it leads to) is fine in LAU, imo.

I'd much prefer if Lara was a thrillseeking ruthless cunt even in her teens (not as an adventurer yet perhaps, but something like mingling with sketchy youth and stuff like that, working on her skill set and other related experiences, and being in control of her fortune, none of which need to be told as stories in games or movies but can be a backstory).

Also, book-writing to finance her adventures is a fucking lol if this is set in the 1990s (and later). Like, come on. She's a world-renowned Joan Rowling? Who describes her super-illegal shenanigans?
