I quit 4chan for almost a year. I tried; I moved out, I'm studying what I want, I'm socializing, I'm getting a job, and still, life is shit.
We're really stuck here forever, bros.
The ability to shitpost with impunity with like minded people is simply too appealing to ever drop. I could leave 4chan if niche message boards were still a thing. Normie life just doesn't quench the thirst.

This is the key bit. I've found communities that are frankly more like minded and less embittered, but they require accounts, which means my posts are persistent and attributable. And that triggers my OCD/paranoia something fierce. The anonymity and ephemerality are what keep me coming back to this hellhole, despite myself.
I love anon, even if he is a small minded hateful autistic little prick.

4chan is the only "social" media place I go to. So, quitting 4chan meant quitting social media in general, which is toxic.

Real world is for talking about work and kids and bullshit. This is for talking about films on a level you can usually only find with a tuition behind it.

I quit from 2013 to 2016. Then again from like 2017 to 2018. Then a decent gap through 2019/20. The 2013 gap was basically no 4chan at all. In that gap I was pretty much rarely on the internet. When I quit AICN/irc/SAz they were always replaced with something new like 4chan. Since I first got the internet around 97, I pretty much became a full time neet/loser. The only period where I straight up had no internet or computer was 2003-2004, and barely anything in 2005. I really developed as a person in that period. Same with the 2013-16 "reduction".

I got married twice. Girlfriends weren't what the hype led me to believe. You quickly realise the only value a woman has is sex and that after a couple of months of that you want a different one.

This is not the only place that still feels like that, just the worst. If you're that old you should know the internet isn't just the web or social media apps.
Blah blah, nihilistic doubt, I know. I'm just stopping by for a cross section of present-focused TV as inspiration for writing. Filter yourselves if you want. Good luck.
