Anonymous No.214299927 >>214299990 >>214303920
That scene is cool on it's face but it's basically a 20 minutes exposition dump, and has 0 stakes as there's no imminent danger 15 seconds after Sirius doesn't kill anyone.
The longer the scene goes the less imminent stakes/danger it has
I like the Aragog scene a lot more, it's also exposition dump, but conversely it gets more and more dangerous the longer it gets

It doesn't even do a good job of that, it doesn't explain anything about the Marauder's past, how Sirius got out of Azkaban and recognized Peter, etc. PoA was the first Potter movie to be incoherent unless you've read the book.

I give a lot of leeway to the HP franchise since its a silly kids book series but Goblet of Fire is genuinely nonsense start to finish. Rowling had to be on Stephen King level of drugs when writing that shit.

I hate how easy to remedy miscommunication determines how the conclusion and aftermath of the book play out, but the rat bit was unironically great. It's 100% on character with what we later learn about the character to prefer disguising himself and living as a rat out of sheer spineless fear and self-preservation.

they easily could've explained this by just saying that peter killed scabbers and replaced him that year and nobody noticed except for sirius and the map
makes more sense than fred and george never harassing ron about the peter he sleeps beside every night for 2 years

Well, if you want to play the incoherent game, Harry felt no scar pain, and there was no hint of his spider sense, and definitely no scream, no burning hands, and no nothing when he shook Quirell's hand when they met on The Leaky Cauldron for the first time

Nah even as a kid I thought the scene was retarded.
>in walks Harry/Hermione
>then Lupin same door, was basically 1 minute behind them
>Snape does the same thing
It's like a sitcom. Otherwise the scene is fine I guess. I never liked PoA's pace and plot, feels like a filler episode despite Sirius being one of the better characters at this point.

Also it's an insane plothole that Snape's experiences here have absolutely no impact on him in future movies. It's like he completely forgot Harry attacked him and ran off with an escaped convict. The conflict between him and Sirius makes no sense if you consider how his character is written by the end of the series.

Haven't watched it in years but I was right when I went to double-check.
>No scar pain
Was only when he was looking at the back of Quirrell's head
>No nothing when he shook hands
They didn't shake hands, Harry offered his hand and you can see Quirrell pull his away.

Rather than an incoherency, it's a bit of foreshadowing. Yet another score for Columbus' work as the best.

I admire the PoA book and movie because it's a lot like experiencing that revelation that adults have obscenely childish conflicts for the first time. The older generation are not more mature, or more restrained, or even particularly wiser, and they left you with the world that you'll have to live in.
I just wish to fucking hell the book didn't have... ellipses... in every... fucking... action scene...

Yea the scene is far from perfect. It only seems good because it is elevated by serious actors. Its similar to the way that Ed Harris and Anthony Hopkins elevated really cliche shit dialog in West World, by being good at their job and delivering it well.

The best sequence in the entire franchise is the opening of Half Blood Prince with the journos in the ministry photographing Harry while Dumbledore takes him away, the cuts on the big flashes after the slowmo on the ring, and the smash cut to the title that isn't seen emerging out of the clouds, it's just there in full view right away. All while Dumbledore's Farewell plays. apex kino.

Who are the marauders? I don't know.
How did Sirius escape from Azkaban? I don't know.
What happened to the time turner? I don't know.
Why did Harry think a stag was his father? I don't know.

I always assumed Srs stole some random's wand rather than have his own original back.
Somebody loyal to Voldemort probably looted his wand from the Potter's house, maybe Wormtail himself
Bellatrix's wand probably went to her sister Narcissa as wands seem to be semi family possessions (Neville kept using his fathers, Ron used Charlie's, etc.)

It is a pretty cool scene not gonna lie
>creates tension when there's fucking nothing

Anonymous No.214305759 >>214305821

The movies kindof of overblow the unique wand situation. While they do have a personal connection, its more like how one has a "personal connection" to certain tools or a guitar. You can generally use anything but yours just "feels" right. The effects of not being able to control a wand has much more do with being a shitty wizard...aka Ron constantly having wand problems.
