At the same time, people want perfection and old movie scans will have little to a lot of imperfections depending on the print. This drove the horror shows we have now. Not to mention over zealous directors of producers *correcting their movies. Cameron is one of the worst.

When they scan 35mm films at some point all of the information is extracted and all you get at higher resolutions is more random noise or film grain. Then they want you to smooth out the film grain but then it looks like a AI upscale. People should agree that for the vast majority of movies 2k is all the info you need.

>When people start reviewing your grain structure, they need to move out of mom's basement and meet somebody," he stated. "Right? I'm serious. I mean, are you fucking kidding me? I've got a great team that does the transfers. I do all the color and density work. I look at every shot, every frame, and then the final transfer is done by a guy who has been with me [for years]."

This but for HDR. The Rec 2020 color space that HDR operates in is way beyond what color 35mm actually has, so effectively, grading for HDR means you have to manipulate colors for it to look "right". Worse, because HDR blows out certain details, grain gets really obstructive and in turn studios have to slather DNR over everything and make the film in smudge. Rec 709, the SDR color space for 1080p, is fine and never needed to be fixed.

HDR is a fucking meme.

The 4k remaster actually made this movie better by sticking to the original colour scheme (if a tad dark in places). It reminded me of the old dvds before they 'corrected' the movie.

people are so fucked up on shit-o-vision that they dont understand finer nuances of the industry. a lot of movies shown on the big screen are 2k or 4k quality. in the past when they put movies on to DVD's, since the DVD can only store so much data, a lot of the deeper colors, quality as well as the sound are cut in down in size so they can store it, making it a shittier version than what was shown on the big screen. when people upgrade to blu ray, a good portion of the quality jump is because blu rays can store more data than DVD's. and the quality of the films were always good, people are just tainted by shit and the world that differs is unreal. the matrix is a good example where the color pallets had to be removed to save data on DVD's. people will say it looks like shit, but thats how it was on the big screen and how it was always suppose to look. every time they are in the matrix, its suppose to have that green tint to it, indicating this isnt the real world, when they are in the real world its suppose to look normal.
you are lying. it was always green

you are stupid. this was an intended art style done in the late 90's to early 2000's where lots of films had a green tint to it. there are specific camera filters that when they shoot gives it this effect, another big example is the ring.

my point still proven
theatrical release on big screen quality: 2k-4k
DVD' release quality: 480-720p
Blu ray: 1080-4k
blu rays have more disc space to store more data and dont have to cut on the original quality of the films. the true versions of the films that should be viewed for maximum viewing pleasure intended is 2-4k. you just got use to shit-o-vision and dont realize that it was always suppose to be that quality.
