The director is a pussy (which is why she's 'allowed' to make films). This is The Promising Young Woman director who made a power-fantasy film about a woman targeting would-be rapists. And when that woman found the would-be rapists, what does she do? Kill them? Beat them? Publicly expose them and shame them? No, of course. She lets them molest her and then gives them a stern talking-to before walking off triumphantly.

But here’s the truth: the tree silhouette isn’t in the novel. There’s no secret Brontë lore you missed. It’s literally just a designer slapping in a barren tree because Wuthering Heights = moors + misery + dead branches. That’s it. You already understood it better than the guy role-playing as a gatekeeper.

So they went digging for a passage to look smart, but all they really did was prove my point—it’s just Brontë describing some beat-up, wind-wrecked trees around the house. The book’s full of that gothic scenery flex, because the moors are basically another character.

The poster’s tree silhouette is a lazy wink at that line—except instead of showing “gaunt thorns stretching their limbs one way,” they stuck in one lonely Microsoft Clipart tree on a white void. It’s like if someone adapted Moby Dick and the poster was just Chris Hemsworth making out with a woman while a random whale emoji floated in the corner.

So yeah, “read a book” was cope. They had to scramble to find any tree reference to justify the design.
