I actually think the whole cast a little off. Even Dafoe played it up a little too much. The direction was probably my favourite part, stylistically. Writing-wise, I think the story was a little weak, especially at the end. It was ambitious to end it the way the way they did, but it was underwhelming.

Like all Draccula depictions so far only the start is enthralling, jist like the book.

Willem Dafoe spoils this. But so does the the rest of the shit in after the start. When away from Transylvania the story is just religious brand wrong. I was lucky to have the great rip look amazing at the start, then half way through it switched to Russian overdub with an idiot student voice explaining as if involved.

I stopped then. Aharing it preceented. The start was good enough to pay for the rest, but the resr was not nescessary and attatchment to the start degrades the start.

Thogh I like Milo Morrie (Mirror Bo), and maybe some shrinks seeing the positive instead of issuing drugs and titles.
Should be "pick me ups" solving priblems. Returning people to self, pressure said less as their valuity revealed to them, focused on loyal, threats fovued on a betrayal. Be who they are best for their lover. A taste of sex to get the list for life back.

Technically and logistically, this movie is an awesome achievement. The wind, the rain, and the darkness seem to do Nosferatu’s bidding. The force of the monster’s unknowable malevolence seems to distort the movie itself, making it shudder and break down. It’s made with the most modern filmmaking technology but feels like an artifact from another century, like one of those inscribed tablets that adventurers find in a tomb and insist on translating aloud even though there’s a drawing of a terrifying demon on it. It reminded me of being a child and seeing the original “The Exorcist” and feeling as if I was seeing a documentary record of evil, one that was itself cursed, and that I should not even be looking at, because by looking at it, I ran the risk of releasing that evil into the world.

It had potential. Great atmosphere, started off mysterious and tense, then it became super cringe by the time they were back in the city, and ended in a big nothingburger.

the whole city was getting wiped out and people she was close to were getting targeted. The ending was unexpected as you wondered what they would possible do, at his coom-brain turned into his weakness that kills him. Absolutely brilliant filmmaking.

-Starts out strong.

-Loses all steam with the reveal of dracula, which happens right near the starts.
-Gets bogged down in meandering, tedious over-written dialogue.
-Lasts far too fucking long because dracula speaks at 1 wpm.

Spoken truly. Also the movie is fascinating as a kind of sideways history lesson. It gives you a stronger sense than any previous vampire movie of the dread that “civilized” English people felt in Stoker’s time when they contemplated the supposedly spooky unknowability of Eastern Europe, with its fairy tale forests and huge wolves, and its people, who were viewed in the big cities of Western Europe as what modern academics would call The Other. (Gothic romantic fiction and horror fiction both emerged from this era and were so close to each other that there was a lot of thematic overlap, especially with the “tall, dark and handsome” archetype of the foreign lover who had a grudge or secret agenda and would destroy that which he couldn’t possess.)
