I think the problem with futurama is, for the most part, lack of memorable (i.e. memeable) jokes. The most famous futurama episodes among normies are usually the ones that tug at your heartstrings like the dog episode, the episode about Fry's brother, they are all effective as stories but they are about non-characters which make them not really matter to anyone but fans of the show. There are no iconic episodes comparable to early Simpsons or charming stupid jokes like Family guy does.
It's also affected by the fact that dumb people feel intimidated by sci-fi and anything related to space or high tech. I have no idea why this is but a sizeable number of people are completely repelled by sci-fi no matter how high or low concept it is. You have to make it pretty much magic so normies get into it like Rick and Morty
