RKO didn't want Toho's Kong to look in any way close to their version. Toho spent a lot of time coming up with a design that they would approve until finally they modelled Kong on a japanese macaque and that's the entire story.

I mean. Is there anyone who would say Jackson’s version doesn’t blow the original out of the water? The original is literally toys and clay figures. If you showed the 2005 movie to people in 1933 they’d think it was fucking real and void there bowels watching it.
