Next month, this infamous scene will be a YEAR old. With that in mind, it's still fascinating and perplexing to me. How an entire studio allowed such a scene to be released, much less filmed, is puzzling. Let's have a character as iconic and famous as The Joker be anally gang raped by a gang of men in prison as he cries and whimpers in despair beforehand. Why would Joaquin agree to this disgusting and, frankly, insane concept?

I would've tolerated this scene if it was the fact that the guards were paid off by someone (perhaps the family of the Wall Street three) to do this to Arthur as a way of showing how brutal and hopeless he is against the system instead of them being angry he called them fat.

The first Joker film did everything in its power to make the protagonist, literally named Arthur Fleck, as pathetic and disturbing as possible and yet incels STILL identified with the character which led to the massive overcorrection in the sequel from a writer terrified he'd accidentally emboldened the very group he meant to mock and condemn.

It did ruin this Joker's reputation, for sure, but the character himself in general is still untouched. This "interpretation" and that's putting it mildly had really, in essence, anything to do with the comic book Joker and was just a shitty OC by Joaquin Phoenix playing himself with makeup on.
