The first is like Doom in a sense. The second and others became more sci-fi with the whole Strogg thing.

Are the game characters charismatic enough for a direct y adaptation or just the setting with whatever characters for a movie?

There are no characters. It's like doomguy. You're just some nameless, silent badass that goes around fucking up enemies. There's no real cutscenes or anything.

There are no characters in Quake 1 or 2. Quake 4 ostensibly has characters and a plot but they're pretty bland and no one really cares about them

Didn't play Quake 1, didn't play Quake 2, but holy shit did I play Quake 3 Arena back in the day. I made it my entire life, joined a website that had official matches a top 300 (i think) player list, and when you reported your win or lose it calculated your new rank.

My best was I think 56th place. But late one night I had an exhibition/practice match with the #1 ranked player. It was first to twenty kills wins and I beat him, 20 kills to his 19.

Do it all Hardcore Henry style.

And mash together all of the Quake games. It's a quakeguy who gets teleported into a hell dimension, and then they're recruited to fight against the strogg, and then they have to fight in a tournament, and then they get strogg-ified.

Depends on what they’re adapting, the first quake is more of a sci-fi/horror/fantasy game, plot is pretty sparse, but it’s essentially about a dimension populated by demons/monsters sending them through portals to earth.
The second games is more scifi, and about an alien race called the strogg, and you’re a space marine invading the planet.

i don't think they intended rocket jumping to be so powerful here, since in quake 3 you take much less damage for rocket jumping so it's incentivized.

Humanity invents slipgates, i.e teleporters. An eldritch entity called Quake starts sending through monsters to seize control of the installations, so Ranger goes through and brings the fight to the strange dimensions where the evil comes from. It's basically Half-Life if Gordon Freeman wasn't a nerd and actually did damage to the invaders.

Doesn't really matter anyway because it's just endless dimension hopping from place to place without any hope of coming home.

This is the OG game that created the PC master race class and solidified the mouse/keyboard combo as the superior gaming interface.

Games in the late 90s and early 2000s were harder than games today because the community was smaller and there were NO casuals.

the game played just fine at 60FPS and one thing most modern gaymers don't comprehend is 60FPS at 90HZ on a CRT is crisper and smoother than 120FPS on a modern display. CRT's also were brighter and crisper.

The only reason "flat panel" took off is because it was cheaper to manufacture in asia and ship to the US and the corporations loved them because they were cheaper and great for text--and they didn't give a shit about gaming.

As an oldfag gamedev I miss the late 90s so god damn much.
A game like Quake is so extremely simple and elegant. The "story" is basically just something someone pulled out of his ass, but nobody cares.
It's essentially just a cool tech demo with the simplest possible gameplay loop attached to it.
Made by just a small handful of friends sitting in a small office.
The last game I worked on had literally thousands of people in the credits.

I agree about his industrial rock stuff, but Ghosts, his series of ambient albums over the past two decades, has been solid. I believe he could still create suitable music for Quake.

What I realised about Trent as I grew older is that the guy can't fucking sing. The more you hear of his voice, the more irritating that defect becomes.
