Why is Black Hawk Down so underrated?
I haven't met a single person who's seen it more than once. I've been watching it / scenes from it since it came out. It was the last good film by Ridley Scott.

the Somalis didn't look Somali at all and it was just 2 hours of mowing down feral blacks. Great way to unwind after rush hour traffic

Were you born in like 2008 or something, everyone i know has seen it plenty of times and loves it

That's the answer to OP's question. It's not talked about because it features 100s of Black killing and getting killed while White US guys call them "skinnys." Doesn't exactly fit the current agenda of the film and critics.

I was 12 when I saw it in the theaters. Then I bought the DVD when it came out and watched it almost every night. I showed it to all of my friends and gilfriends and they all said this

>>214340634
>just 2 hours of mowing down feral blacks

and like that's what I love it for. Not the "feral blacks" but it was like 3 hours of great fucking action. I have the 4k rip and it's spectacularly cinematic.

I don't think "it's not talked about" at all, people either say it's a solid war movie especially during the gwot years, or they say it's not that accurate and there are better documentaries

It's a film and cannot be compared to documentaries not that there are any good ones (Netflix one was trash).

There's the book, raw video footage, analysis from military including those who were actually there (not just US), and the timeline of what happened at the White House. But yeah it's just a film as you said

I did not say it's "just" a film. I said it is a film. You generally don't compare films to documentaries as they are different genres. So are books and raw video footage. I am aware. Thank you. But still

it's a great film and I just never see it discussed or mentioned.

As long as you don't confuse the film with reality, especially since it's a relatively recent event with nearly all surviving players still alive to tell you what happened, then I agree it's a good film. It's not total cap like Hurt Locker or anything

The main problem is the movie citing Bush 41 for the initial humanitarian mission when the operation that led to the BHD mishap took place entirely during the Clinton admin. I've noticed military who were active in the 1990s get really grumpy at the movie attempting to shift the blame from Clinton. Especially since Adid's militia were trained by AQ that Clinton claims nobody knew about at the time, a connection that the movie made but was removed from the theater cut at the last minute. As a film it's fine (it's such a Michael Bay-styled movie that Bay made it again with 13 Hours), just don't cite it as fact

Simply a tight budget.
If I had more money and the time, I'd probably watch Ridley's whole filmography just to say I have.

This movie was boring as fuck. It consists of a ton of famous actors shooting each other and showing up for 5 minutes of screen time. I had no idea what was going on a lot of the time. Its 30 mins “look at these fancy helicopters flying over Somali beaches”while Rachid Taha is playing and 2 hours of coastal desert town shootouts. It is well made though and supposedly quite accurate to the actual events. Maybe it is more of an American thing.

24 years after it came out you might consider him one but it doesn’t change the fact he was starring in huge films that decade. He was the lead in Hulk and Munich. He had a bigger role in Troy than Bloom. He did very well for a few years
