After red/blue it was basically a fad game and by the time R/S/E came along there was only one spergy kid in my class(was 11 when it came out btw) who played Pokemon. Kids wanted to play real games, like GTA, Metal Gear Solid 2/3, Kingdom Hearts, Silent Hill 2, and 3 and games like Burnout. I could go on. Everyone was also tired of the formula.
