Frankly I couldn't agree more. Yet compared to 3, I still enjoyed 4 quite a bit. Not as much as the first two but close; seeing Vera on the big screen is always a treat, though.

They're emotional movies, not brainy ones. You can just watch them and react to what happens, rather than actually immerse yourself in the story or even analyze them in a critical way.
Nothing wrong with that imho, I do like horrors too, but they're a simplistic entertainment product. There are a few exceptions but good directors rarely bother with horror movies.

It's the genre that translates best in theaters . The dark theater, some in the audience screaming of a scare, and the chuckles from the crowd at those people. You can't really duplicate that at home, every other type of movie an audience doesn't really add anything
