There’s an appeal in being a competent actor that is willing to take shit scripts seriously.
It means that when he gets a script he thinks is shit but actually turns out great, even by fluke, he’ll help elevate it rather than being a millstone stunt cast.

That, and he cannot be allowed to contribute his own ideas, because - judging by his "contributions" to Trek/nutrek, e.g. Picard suddenly being into dune buggies, and Picard suddenly liking dogs, and "let's make this an analogy to Brexit" - they're fucking dreadful.
