Ghostbusters
Is this perhaps one of the greatest movies ever?

Went to see this like opening day with two other friends. was about 16ish. We had no idea how fuckin funny this was going to be, neither did the theater. Saw it in the afternoon so it wasn't anywhere near packed but about half. That was the first time in my life I felt the energy of a room just explode with laughter. Everyone left with smiles and good vibes. was something.

I read something from somewhere about how it's the "most perfectly-paced film" ever in regard to shot-length or something something

It is the best movie about bustin' ghosts.
It is in my top 25 essential 80s movies.
Top 25 Halloween movies.
And it is a great comedy.

But lets not act like its on the same level of Avatar 3: Underwater Cat Farts

GB2 has more horror elements that its predecessor. The tunnel scene, the bathtub scene, the photograph developing scene, Janosz' eyes in the hallway during the blackout, Janosz as a ghost, Vigo's face stretching out of the painting behind Janosz. The Statue Of Liberty scene was kinda silly but there's way more supernatural menace in GB2 than the original.

One thing that annoys me about nu-Ghostbusters is how they completely ignore 2 and pretend that the events of 1 are sone kind of secret urban legend that got memoryholed somehow. As if the confirmed existence of ghosts and demons wouldn't radically alter culture in any way at all.

I don't know but it's a great movie. If you are like in your mid 30's or 40's or so, then you liked this movie as a kid, maybe forgot about it for a little while, but then loved it more as an adult. It holds up and it gets funnier the older you get. As a kid almost all the humor went over my head.

As a child, I watched the GB2 VHS until it wore out. For some reason, it was less scary, more fun, and way funnier. I still uphold that thought today - if you look at it isolated from GB, it's a great flick. While the music and character dynamics change significantly to match the aesthetics of the highly successful cartoon, in a bubble, the horror is superior, the comedy is superior, and overall, the theming and dialogue are brilliant. The idea that pure positivity and the cooperation of man can defeat even ancient sorcerers hellbent on ruling the world from an ethereal throne is something that's inspiring day to day, even now.

Yes, the painting scene at the end is pointlessly dumb. Yes, the idea that the Ghostbusters get sued after saving the world once is dumb. Yes, Murray and Weaver breaking up and Weaver becoming a single mom in 4 years is dumb. But the quality of scenes like the early river of slime appearance, the court room scene (a judicial restrangement order!), the toaster scene, all of the horror shots mentioned before, and finally, activating the Statue of Liberty and its subsequent walk through NY streets blasting a modern version of Jackie Wilson's Higher and Higher with the entire city out to support them and singing along? It's kino. Positively kino.

One thing I've asked for years is a GB show. Make it with a new crew(with cameos from the originals of course) dealing with the monster of the week. Hell I would straight up just steal episode ideas from the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. Grown up Oscar could be the MC who of course has issues with his Step dad Bill Murray. Dan works in the Occult bookstore and can give advice while Ernie runs dispatch from the fire house. 8 - 10 1hr episodes a season. This shit would print money.

Akroyd's entire family was obsessed with the occult and paranormal

>Aykroyd's great-grandfather, a dentist, was a mystic who corresponded with author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on the subject of Spiritualism, and was a member of the Lily Dale Society.[64] Other than Spiritualism, Aykroyd is also interested in various other aspects of the paranormal, particularly UFOlogy. He is a lifetime member of and official Hollywood consultant for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). Along these lines, he served, from 1996 to 2000, as host of Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, which claimed to describe cases drawn from the archives of "The Office of Scientific Investigation and Research". In 2005, Aykroyd produced the DVD Dan Aykroyd: Unplugged on UFOs.

>On September 29, 2009, Peter Aykroyd Sr., Dan's father, published a book entitled A History of Ghosts. This book chronicled the family's historical involvement in the Spiritualist movement, to which Aykroyd readily refers. Aykroyd wrote the introduction and accompanied his father on a series of promotional activities, including launches in New York and Toronto, appearances on Larry King Live and Coast to Coast AM, and various other public-relations initiatives. Aykroyd also read the introduction for the audio version of the book.[66] In 1997, the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry awarded Aykroyd in absentia the Snuffed Candle Award for hosting Psi Factor and being a "long-time promoter ... of paranormal claims". Following the awards, Joe Nickell wrote to Aykroyd asking for the research behind the "cases" presented on Psi Factor, particularly a claim that NASA scientists were "killed while investigating a meteor crash and giant eggs were found and incubated, yielding a flea the size of a hog".[67]
