Some great effects, some bad ones, but something about the movie felt off. The soundtrack and editing made every should-be tense scene seem too calm instead.

Even the big transformation scene, it goes on for like 5 minutes, and the music is just eerie and suspenseful like it doesn't acknowledge that the scene actively involves a psycho werewolf transforming to rip someone to shreds. Tighter cuts and more energetic music would have helped the movie a lot

Put this on for Emma and got sorely disapponted when her head exploded in the first ten minutes, but thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the movie. It's worth watching at least for Hillary Swank as a fit milf in the final sequence. The lead Betty Bilpin has some nice fat hangers too. Was also pleased to see it's essentially a chud movie.

That's an interesting question. I don't have the answer, but I'd wager it has something to do with how anime was founded to push leftism among youth and then went on to influence their media and culture.

i think it had something to do with the huge economic collapse
like they had an economic bubble, built up by the country's newfound interest in tech innovation, in the 80s and then it just collapsed leaving the country in a state of despair
so of course the tone of the media at that time was a lot more dour compared to previous and future decades

The whole style is different. Night is much more in line with 50s sci-fi horror and shot more like an art film with a heavy emphasis on shadows and camera angles, very serious tone, while Dawn and Day are more goofy and exploitation with more over-the-top characters, and a more Hollywood visual style instead of the more expressionist thing he was going for with Night.

A lot of it I think is down to the crew that Romero developed and began working with, that he didn't have when he made Night of the Living Dead. What became his more identifiable style isn't just his vision, but the combination of him, Tom Savini, Michael Gornick, etc. that developed into the Romero style.
Compare it to someone like Sam Raimi or Tobe Hooper who already had a very strong personal style with their first movie, be it the camerawork, the make-up, the writing style, etc that you can still identify in the rest of their movies

Cannibal Holocaust is considered the first and came out in 1980. The McPherson Tape came out in 1989. There's also the first (that I've found) webcam FF movie in The Collingswood Story from 2002. Then again, there might be a ton of microbudget Japanese FF movies that pre-date the US ones, since Psychic Vision: Jaganrei came out in 1988.
