Yeah, considering everything, it's a miracle it didn't turn out worse than it already is.

I don't know if anyone has already said this but it's so obvious now that I think about it. Cut the Anakin character. Just everything to do with him. It's a small scale political thriller where Obi Wan, Qui Gon and a lowly life form have to switch gears from diplomacy to warrior heroics to stop the Chinese invasion of idyllic Naboo which is a surprise sprung in a theretofore peaceful galaxy, 1/3 into the movie.
The stakes are that the innocent Naboo people (who we get to see even just once before this shit plays out to establish that they exist) will be victimized by these vastly larger political machinations if there's not a spanner thrown in the works.
The excitement is seeing these religious diplomat nerds reluctantly having to pull out more and more stops on what they're actually capable of through the developments. At the start of the movie they're like smarmy prissy and cosy domestic cats because of the galaxy's peace and the temple complacency, and by the end shown their fuckin sharp as fuck claws and incomprehensible speed they'd had the whole time, saved for an occasion, and you're just like 'holy fuck'.
The cutaway to an unrelated sports movie sequence is skipped. Anakin is introduced in the next movie

The point of having Qui-Gon and Anakin meet wasn't some trivial point to be excluded willy nilly, because it is directly based on the fact that Caesar adopted Juba II shortly before he died, at which point Augustus took over and raised him in Rome.
George Lucas fixed Dune by actually spoofing the Messiah for real, and not just stealing the words because he's too retarded, lazy and a pussy to look into and accurately portray the real history of the word like Herbert was.
Herbert did a cop-out by stating it was a far-flung future that just so happened to use the same terminology, whereas George did a space-opera in the far-flung future without fucking up the accuracy of the spoof.

going by the fact that this is the first time I've ever heard of "Juba the deux" I'm inferring that actually such person was not the messiah

>jedi in their prime
>qui-gon jin is an awesome new character played perfectly by liam neeson
>first few scenes we see a young emperor putting his plan into action to take over the galaxy
>groundbreaking mix of practical and special effects that hold up today
>dat underwater gungan city reveal
>dat pod race
>dat huge land battle
>dat final lightsabre duel
>multitude of clever subtext and story points that use references from other famous movies for kinoisseurs to appreciate
Any old school Star Wars fan who didn't like Phantom Menace is gay and retarded.

You have already "heard of him" as the chosen one. Do you really expect schools to have instated into the curriculum such radical blasphemous knowledge even before chumps like yourself were able to sniff out what George based his story on?
Juba II was the heir of the Massylii, and was at the battle of Actium.
Also, don't you find it curious that you have lived your life up until this point without knowing the name of Augustus and Caesars shared adoptive son, which they set to marry Cleopatra's daughter Cleopatra Selene II?
His ancestry isn't nobodies either.
Caring about Star Wars without knowing about Juba II is exactly like obsessing about Coke's Father Christmas without knowing about Saint Nicholas.

As a kid you assumed George spent years perfecting the script for the prequels
But then you realized he just waited to get the toy rights back from Kenner and put out 3 movie length toy commercials

he did spend years perfecting the story, before he even wrote episode 4, which he thought would be funny to make as the first movie, like something monty python would do. Since his childhood he was plotting out the story he was always inspired to tell, of Mace Windu, falling out the Windu

Yeah, so why wasn't Disney able to replicate it, even with all the shilling from affiliated channels like RLM, Patrick Willems, Grace Randolph, Chris Stuckmann, Browntable, High Top etc.??

all jokes aside it's by far the least bad prequel and a pretty fun 90s summer action movie if you pretend it's not star wars
