An ancient race of godlike beings begin seeding the universe with life using beings called "Angels". It's unknown how many there are, but at least two of these seed Angels we know for sure exist: Adam, and Lilith.
There are only supposed to be one of these Angels on a planet due to the risk of them fusing into a singular god, and causing cataclysmic destruction. As a safeguard, each Angel is equipped with a spear that causes an Angel to shut down until such a time as the spear were ever removed.
Adam arrived on Earth first, hence he became known as the "First Angel", and began seeding the planet with his offspring, known collectively as Angels as well. Adam and his offspring are unique from Lilith's offspring in that they are embued with the "Fruit of Life", which gives them eternal life and an unlimited supply of power, but the trade off is that they are alone, each existing as a race unto itself.
Later, in a disastrous mistake, Lilith also arrives on Earth with a mission to seed her own form of life there. Her spacefaring vessel appears in the form of a moon, and impacted in Japan. That event is what's known as "First Impact".
In the event of Adam and Lilith meeting, the spears are set to disable one or the other in order to prevent their fusing, as mentioned. Lilith's was damaged in the impact, but Adam's pierced him, leaving him and his offspring in suspended animation, and Lilith free to begin seeding her form of life, which ultimately became humanity. The twist is that humanity is actually an angel as well, but instead of a singular being, we're more of a supercolony being, our forms kept separate from one another due to our AT Fields, which give us form.
Skip ahead millions of years, and humanity secretly discovers the remains of Adam and Lilith, as well as the Dead Sea Scrolls, which for simplicity's sake is instructions on how to unite humanity into a god.
