Whenever I watched Doctor Who as a kid mu mum would mention that she held a candle for Colin Baker, who she refered to as the "Sexy Doctor". She would not shut up about him and would often bandy around words like "Virile" and "Studly" in reference to him.
Years later I met him at a comics convention where he was signing autographs. A signed photo was pricey enough, but he also would sign any item for a little bit extra. There was another stall selling cardboard life size stand ups for £60, which was pricey too, but I reasoned it would be for my mum, who had been through a hard time lately and it would really cheer her up. So I bought the stand up and took it to Colin. Really nice bloke as it goes, I told him the story behind it and he signed a personal message telling my mum how appreciative he was to have her as a fan.
"I'm your new Daddy now..." he joked with a theatrical wink, and a twinkle in his eye.
I was a bit embarressed taking the life size stand up of Colin Baker home on the train and the ticket officer made me pay for a ticket for it, so all in all it cost £170. But it would be worth it to see the smile on Mum's face When she got her life size signed "Sexy Doctor", Colin Baker.
I got the train back to her house and called ahead to tell her to expect a big surprise. I showed her the signed standee of the object of her desires and she said:
"What the fuck is that? Where's his scarf?"
