I liked 1 2 and 3. I think 1 is the best though. 2 felt the most like the cartoon. 3 felt like an experiment and I guess it failed financially but I remember enjoying it as a kid.

I still have the NES and SNES TMNT games and a collection of DVD of the TMNT cartoons I ripped off of VHS containing recordings of the show from back in the day. It still has the commercials complete with the toy commercials of the day.

I don't really care if any of it holds up. It's nice nostalgia to cheer me up now and then on bad days. I admittedly don't watch or play them very often. It can be years between the days I dust any of this off, but it always makes me smile when I do.

It actually would have been a great setting/concept if it didn't have the budget of a Xena/Hercules TV show. Kids were 100% obsessed with samurais and ninjas and karate and everything Japan at the time.

If it had been half-serious like the first TMNT movie it would have been great, to have them visit the source of their martial arts power and maybe like meet Splinter's master's ancestor, instead of having everyone slip on banana peels while shouting one-liners.

I was 16 at the time when I saw it and grew up a huge turtle head partly thanks to my older brothers who lived through peak turtle mania. I was disappointed in the movie at the time but couldn’t exactly pinpoint why. The evil plan made no sense.
1. Shredder and his no.2's were already in charge of the wealthiest corporation on the planet and their plan was to poison everyone and hold them for ransom to give their company more money. Also the poison only affects that city so what even is the point?

Shredder's mech suit alone would have been worth billions to the military if they were hurting for cash. The damn thing can fire powerful projectiles and recall them, meaning you have infinite ammo.

They were the ones who created the turtles, meaning they discovered how to make sentient life. The whole world would have worshipped them without them having to show a display of force.

2. The jokes were that great. I laughed once or twice with the first movie and not at all during the second one.

3. Part 2 has a crap story that is completely forgettable.

4. The way they explained evolution is the second one made no sense and it was the driving force behind the bad guy's motives.

1. The movies had nothing to do with the Ninja Turtles; it was "The Megan Fox Show" with the Ninja Turtles as guest stars
2. The Ninja Turtles didn't act like themselves in the slightest; why is Mikey perving on April?
3. I mean, the whole thing just seems like a weird ass fever dream of a thirteen year old kid mashing his toys together while having lewd thoughts about the latest bimbo he saw on TV thrown in. That's kinda cool on paper and the fact that they got Michael Bay on board is pretty cool too, but the execution ended up being just a big ol' bucket of ass. I don't even remember anything about any of them in the slightest. It just felt like a CGI puke fest and I don't find those to be appealing whatsoever.

Because it was the 80s and the surfer culture was popular with kids.
Also most of that stuff comes from the cartoon. In the early turtles comics they were a lot more straight-forward because the whole joke was that they were treating teenage mutant ninja turtles seriously, despite the inherent absurdity of the premise.
Just call it a product of the times.

I absolutely loved the elevator scene though. I hate that the 2K12 TV series acted all smug about it. 2K12 in general had this smugness vibe to it. It wasn't good. It was mainly a Raph movie with Leo in a support role. Donnie and Mikey were basically non-existent. Being Raph focused isn't really a problem, its just that his and Leo story feel small and unresolved because the film suddenly remembered "oops, we have a completely disconnected main story antagonist and we gotta wrap this shit up in the next 30 minutes!"

It's also a very dry movie. It's not really funny or entertaining, it's visually pretty bland even by 2007 standards, the musical score is forgettable, and the fight scenes outside of Leo and Raph are pretty awful. It's a CG animated movie and they couldn't come up with some cool choreography? The fight with the giant hamster looking thing in the construction site was boring visually and the final fight against the Stone Warriors might as well be a blur. There was an interesting premise here with having two broken families (The TMNT and the Immortals), but neither side is fully developed and tge whole project just feels like a waste of time. The only good thing that came out of this movie was Leo vs Raph. The lead up to it and the fight feels like a completely different project. Good lighting, fantastic fight, the music finally picks up, character arcs being fully realized. It's just good. And its only about 6 minutes long in a 90 minute movie. Fuck!

Why you gotta speak like a fag man

I didn't like 1. It was too serious in its story telling but it didn't feel sincere. It just ultimately comes off as a bland film with its only high point being the avalanche scene (and even that ended up dragging), Mecha Shredder and elevator scene. The rest of the film falls flat.

2 is almost as bad, but its at least entertaining in a retarded way. Everything is over the top, with absolutely ridiculous performances from the whole cast. The biggest negative I can give it is the God awful casting and what the absolute raping they did to Casey Jones as a character. With how stupid the rest of the movie is, they decided to make Casey the straight man? What the fuck.

How was it harsh? For a TMNT movie, it was severely lacking in TMNT. Its problems weren't exclusive to just that movie. Astro Boy was a big miss as well. That studio just did not have the capability of producing a compelling film or hiring good script writers. Just look at all the crap Kevin Munroe worked on before and after TMNT. Thank God he didn't touch Gatchaman.

2003 was good but I felt like TMNT had a major downward slump after the hype for it ran out mainly because of Laird. That guy just had an absolute hatred towards anything 87 and would do anything to down play it. Turtles Forever was an absolute mockery. I can understand not liking the basterdized version of your creation, but at the very least you could adopt the most popular elements and adapt them into your style instead of outright ignoring it. It just seemed petty and the refusal to use elements from one of the most recognizable versions just limited its reach. Turtles right now is a merchandise juggernaut thanks to Nick recognizing 87 hard. Even if Mutant Mayhem was a dud, the 87 content is keeping that IP alive. Then you have Eastman with Last Ronin expanding the property even further. Yeah, that guy had some shit ideas, but at least he's more open than Laird was.

Still, nothing is as offensive as what 2K12 did to 87. Holy shit, that cross over sucked.
