yeah it does, it's not just cars/people but also other cats, predators, diseases etc. that they pick up. but at least over here where I am from, in the countryside there are a fair amount of farm cats that actually serve a purpose (pest control), so it's kind of understandable if people want to own them and keep them / let them go outside. but if you're not putting an animal to use and it's just your companion, it's a little fucked up to willingly lower their life expectancy by a lot when they don't even care if they're forced to stay indoors

My mum suddenly had to put our 17 year old cat down 2 weeks ago while I was visiting my grandmother away and couldn’t be there. I had taken him to the vet a 3 weeks ago and she diagnosed him with conjunctivitis, gave me antibiotics to treat him.
