When and why did they stop making comfy horror movies?

Digital photography and changing culture killed most of what you'd probably consider made this film and those like it comfy.

the gen x/milleni-elder kids who acted in these all got old and the next crop of kids cannot replicate the simple vanilla heterosexual formula that made this era of film so comfortable and familiar feeling. they're simply too gay and brown-coded now

And cellphone cameras. And mass surveillance. And Internet. And the Siege of Gaza.

The trunk scene made no sense. The ending shower scene made no sense.

When Hollywood realized that nothing but faggot ass jump scares and horrendous “muh demon devil” possession bullshit would rake in money from the retards that watch them. That’s when.

I'm pretty sure no one will think that about all the miserable elevated-psychological-traumatic-metaphor-for-whatever slop we've been fed over the past 10 years, anon.

Greedy studio assholes wanted all slasher/horror movies to be PG so they could release them into cinemas and have teenagers attend, but rather than crafting decent PG horror, they took R-Rated movies, cut as much of the violence and nudity as they could. Which made all the films shit, and everyone would complain about the lack of blood, so the studio assholes would then put out an "unrated" cut to try and double dip on people who wasted their money going to the cinema. But this ended up backfiring because it just led to every horror movie getting shitty reviews, and the people that figured out what the studios were doing would just wait for the DVD instead. So every slasher became a box office bomb. The late 00s were filled with racks of "unrated edition" slasher films.

No. Everyone thought the movies then were good. No one likes the movies now and there won't be any retro fitting in the future where people will think they are good or nostalgic. You need to have soul for that just as a base.

IKWYDLS wasn't even well-received back then
go to imdb, sort by older and see all those low-rated user reviews from 1998

IKWYDLS is pretty low on the list, but the horror genre employs a simple visual film craft that is no longer present in modern movies. It's similar to why we no longer have good action films.

In 20 years, nobody will care about movies.

It was a pretty popular movie.
