I get what you're saying, this critique actually extends to a lot of other 80s horror movies in general.
But the thing is, the lib-coded shit in them was subtle enough you can still watch these movies without choking on cringe the whole time. the Write Once performance to me is one of the goat film endings for sure. I've seen different translations but they're all good. In a way it strikes at the heart of all horror films, which is a memento mori.
It has a good hook as a film because a) the lurid high concept title and b) "wacky Japan" aspect. But the film itself has all this morbid suffering in it as well. I haven't read much into the real meaning of the elements, but I felt it as a film that doesn't solve the enigma of the suicides in the film but says a lot about life and death outside of them.
