This was a good movie, but it didn't feel very biblical. I can't remember my exact issues with the portrayal of Jesus. Did a good job at showing how "truly man" he was, though.

Michael York as John the Baptist was in Jesus of Nazareth was the best portrayal of a biblical character in anything I've seen, though.

If reading the Bible turns you off you should read a harmony of the Gospels. That's where they take the 4 gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and weave them into a singular narrative.

A good bible translation is helpful for the new Christian, too. I prefer the KJV but the language is dated and it takes a lot of study for the modern uninitiated reader to get the hang of it. The ESV or the NASB are nice.

The ministry of R.C. Sproul was also helpful to me. He's dead now, but he's all over YouTube. Wes Huff is more zoomer friendly. He's pretty good.

the movie Greatest Story Ever Told is really good but for me if you just focus on the life of Jesus isolated from the rest of the biblical narrative and out of context of the Levites and the Priesthood being usurped by Edomites I think it loses its meaning and becomes kinda dull actually. All the stuff surrounding it is what makes his life so epic and meaningful I think its nearly impossible to understand the significance or magnitude if you just start from the gospel. For example I had a newly converted friend talking to me and after like a year of studies he said "So uh.... the entire notion of there being villains is lost if you dont understand what the priestly line of people had to do to get to that point, and how many of them were killed for it and why. If you read the old testament, aka the part that is considered scripture by both Jew and Christian, it's all about God's grace. The OT Jews, are the most prideful, untrustworthy and traitorous tribe imaginable. It's all to show how forgiving and loving Christ is. Almost everyone in the Bible is weak and deranged beyond measure. Even the Apostles refused to truly put their faith in him until He was risen. Our Lord took the most lowly among us and made them instruments of his will, showing that His grace is sufficient for us all. If he is willing to save those who spit in his face, he is willing to save us all.

Even if you're an atheist, the Bible is a great story, and you'll be surprised by how often you'll recognize a passage in scripture that has shaped our society, at how many phrases are taken from scripture, at how many ideas we take for granted came from the pages of the Bible. It's a good read.
