I completely clocked out of caring about this new movie, despite loving TRON, as soon as I found out that the plot apparently hinged on things from virtual-reality (somehow) coming into our REAL world.

Not only is that concept completely retarded on the science-fiction level (unless you're dealing with sci-fi as soft as Digimon or something, but even Digimon has alternate rules that allows for it to make sense), but that honestly kind of completely defeats the entire purpose of what the TRON universe is supposed to focus on.

I don't understand why Disney didn't just go with "What if all electronic devices are Tron world"-idea. Tron 2.0 the video game had that idea. Disney already partially did that with Wreck-It-Ralph 2. Hell the video game plot is a decent Disney adventure type of story so they could've just adopted that 1:1.

Son of one of the original Tron characters accidentally gets transported to Tron world, he now has to look for a way back to real world while also chasing a macguffin that evil data spying corp tries to steal, while dodging aggressive antivirus faction that mistakes him for a virus, and a mysterious new virus that wreaks havoc in Tron world.
So he travels from computer to computer through servers, running away from a PC reformat that looks like a giant wall of death in Tron world, he stowaways in a "train" that is actually a downloading zip file, visit the internet that is a massive city etc.

Just have trailers and marketing focus on advertising how inside every mobile phone, iPad and school computer is a neon world where people have superpowers and fight against neon robot dragons who in real world are some type of malicious malware. Disney could even just utilize their own shitty apps for that. Have the trailer zoom in to some Disneyland card app and its a Tron adventure inside. How? The different Tron worlds in the video game were just different color schemes. You start out inside the digitisation PC that is a color of muted blue and grey. Antivirus faction and their "prisons" are world of aggressive red like in first movie. The virus faction is made of broken geometric shapes and sickly yellow pea soup colors. The old computer that had the abandoned Tron project was a world of bright yellow. Evil corp server is gentle dark purple.

The Tron world is made of geometric shapes and neon lights, thats extremely easy for most 3D artists to do these days with minimal effort. Its part the reason why first Tron looked the way it did in the first place. Any humanoids could be easily motion capped with suits on, then editing just adds the neon glow on them.

the whole point of the plot is the tragedy of how K isn't even really the protagonist of his own life/story because all his memories are fake, the girl is actually Deckard's daughter and not related to him at all etc. the whole point is the existential question of whether a fake simulacra of a human who doesn't even have his own memories or a life mission he can call his own, who dies a pointless death alone in the snow to reunite an actual guy with his real daughter had a life that still mattered or not and whether or not he was still somehow a real human bean (and a real hero) in the end

it's actually kind of the opposite of the first Bladerunner and expounds on the themes more straight-forwardly in a way; whereas the first film is all about a very human seeming guy with real feelings and a real purpose and a 'is he or isn't he a replicant' plot, 2049 really is in fact about a full-on straight replicant where it is unambigiously where everything about him is fake and seemingly pointless and he never grasps actual humanity. This is why 2049 is more profound and the better film imo

Tron 2.0 started out amazing then got worse as the story went on. Also, the tech used in that game was ridiculously GPU intensive and I think that hurt it's ability to reach an audience. I remember playing it on the lowest settings and almost not making it through a boss level on easy mode because my framerate was like 2 fps.

I saw the movie. These are truly some of the best visuals I've seen for a blockbuster in a while. I think for the character and plot people (most of the world), you guys are gonna have a bad time with this movie. However, I knew from the trailers I was going into a Transformers-level action spectacle and that’s what I got. ILM has never looked better than in this movie. The action is very non-stop. When the terrible comedic moments happened I kind of just pretended they weren’t happening, they just fall flat, but visually it’s some of the best stuff I’ve seen in a while. I'm definitely going to watch it and I'd recommend you guys watch it on IMAX, it's otherworldly.

I didn't care for the story for most of the way through. The asian lead just wasn't believable, wasn't charismatic either. She might as well have been sexy, but she wasn't. There's a villain that's supposed to be the grandson of David Warner's character in the original. He's no David Warner. But he did improve somewhat as the film went on.

2nd half was better. The story is pure nonsense, but it did the job alright. You can't give the story priority in a movie like this. When the soundtrack is pounding and the visuals are popping the movie delivers the goods.

Jimmy Fallon said it was great and his favourite movie!

Just saw it with my asian wife. WMAF take down woke black lesbian trying to do evil for angry nerd, ultra turbo based.

Really though I can put aside Leto being a cult leader, I really don't care, the movie delivered in every way possible. Pacific Rim Imax was my ultimate theater experience, this was on par. I saw Pacific Rim in Imax 4 times and turned to my friend the first time and said "oh my god, this is fucking amazing", and I had that same feeling multiple times during Tron Ares. The story was serviceable, fine in relation to the AI zeitgeist, but the music and visuals were all I cared about and in IMAX 3D it was one of the greatest theater experiences I've ever had.

I am shocked by the negative reviews. Is it the black woman bad guy? Hate for Leto? I really don't know, but if you appreciate kino this is a must see in IMAX 3D. If you are a tryhard midwit you probably won't like the movie, if you appreciate cinematography and the feeling a movie can give during it's sequences you will love it. It really was incredibly similar to Pacific Rim.

- Did Disney fucking forget that the digital world in general isn't fucking called "The Grid"? The Grid is SPECIFICALLY Flynn's hidden basement computer system. Literally no one even knew its name except for Kevin, Sam, and Quorra.
- Why did the Encom and Dillenger sytems have the Legacy art style? This movie even points out that different eras of systems have different looks, so why do current day things look the same as a system created when Sam was a kid?
- Why the fuck would Dillenger's systems have Recognizers
- The Recognizer they rez into the real world is obviously way too big to fit in the building that supposedly creates it
- Why the FUCK would they give Flynn's appearance such a half-assed explanation when they could have just made him be a third Clu?

Just watched the high quality cam version.
This is the best tron movie out of the three i think.
Really fucking enjoyed him going to 80s tron world

Biggest problem with the movie is the goofy asian MC. she is such a shit actor and feels like they chose a ching chong for chinese sales

Overall really enjoyed it

I liked it. Loved the NIN score (which made me feel old), didn't have a problem with the story, though I'm aware it's completely stupid. There's a scene with a boat chase inside the digital world where the water's made out of pixels and I was thinking "what the fuck do they need pixel water for?". And they zap chinktress into the computer and I was wondering where the duck her body went. Whatever. This movie falls apart in 1 second if you think about it, but it's just a spectacle. I mean who the fuck takes fucking Tron seriously? It was entertaining and that's good enough for a Friday night using my AMC Premiere subscription.
