I loved Dredd but it’s probably for the best they didn’t make a sequel

None of the more fantastical Dredd villains would work in this kind of dark and realistic setting.

The comic is absolutely not like this. Hence why the most popular villain for judge Dredd is a supernatural monster called judge death

Been years since I read any of the comics but from what I remember

>the dark judges
>they’re in another dimension called Deadworld
>they each have different powers
>portal shenanigans let them infiltrate our world where they attempt to impose their personal judge area of expertise on living humans

I think they’re judge Mortis/decay, judge fear, judge fire and judge death

The reason they’re so prolific is because judge Dredd doesn’t have any other long term villains who are killers really. Dredd kills those ones.

The dark judges can be killed sort of but they’re also undead supernatural beings. They always come back eventually

Anyway, just adding to what you said OP, I think some variation of the dark judges could work but less overtly fantastical.

In some modern comic telling of the dark judges set in the movie universe if I recall, they instead had some scientists experimenting with a portal, this lets the dark judges enter as energy of kinds, and lets them possess bodies. Sounds wild still but looked much less goofy

If they did make a sequel I’d have just done the America arc where the citizens are demanding elections and democracy but the judges are ordered to infiltrate the protestors and cause riots, suppress the demonstrators etc
