Life is Beautiful
Is this movie really that good?
I feel its just ok at best, like its the most obvious 6/10 ever.
Why is every WW2 movie so highly overrated? i mean most of them are the same, too predictable and follow the same tone.
The same goes for The Pianist, just a le said musician dude movie with WW2 themes as a background.
Come and See feels like a documentary more than a movie
Saving Private Ryan feels like Call of Duty but in a movie form

Thoughts? is WW2 movies overrated? or do you disagree?
Also what is your favorite War movie setting? which period do you like?

>Is this movie good?

no
Anonymous No.215171707 [Report]
Nam is usually the best setting but as I get older I crave less common settings like WW1. Life is beautiful is definitely mid, can't believe I watched that in history class what a slog. Enjoyed the use of that Italian orchestral piece and the father's role was emotional but yeah didn't really elevate it enough

Then why its so highly rated everywhere? why it gets all the awards?

Benigni started making shitty movies with this one. It's just an oscar bait: notice that the American soldiers, instead of the soviets, liberate the camp at the end.

Does it matter who liberated it? its still the same WW2 movie we seen 100th time, so the question is why is this so highly rated? all normies give it 10/10 no questions asked, i feel people are scared to give WW2 low score just so they are not called Nazis or something, but if you look at those movies through artistic merit, they are really not special at all.

>pic
7/10. The slice of life half is much better than the lolocaust half
>WWII
They needed to stop 40 years ago. If they still NEED to make war movies there’s much better and less overused settings, like WWI if you want bleak or the various British civil wars if you want the real (and more interesting) version of game of thrones

>Does it matter who liberated it?
Yes, the movie is rewriting history in order to be "sold" more to an American audiance
>why is this so highly rated?
I think because it was one of the few comedy about that period and argument
>i feel people are scared to give WW2 low score
I don't think so, that movie was critizied.

The entire movie is basically a build up to the punchline of the kid seeing the tank and cheering, and it's worth it.

the camp scenes are kinda ridiculous because they go against even mainstream historiography

like the camp they're in is an extermination camp in the height of 1944, the kid would have been gassed on arrival

in a way the movie kind of ends up being unintentionally adjacent to holocaust denial

Ryan was hugely influential for video games. Medal of Honor and CoD got made thanks to this film.

What happened to this lil pasta nigga? He stood on the chair when he won and got excommunicated from movies.
Anonymous No.215173682 [Report]
>>215173458

He started making not so good movies one after the other, more notably that one set in Afghanistan (the hype was extremely high for that one) and a shitty Pinocchio real life movie, and I think the success of La Vita è Bella and the fact he couldn't surpass it became a burden to him, so I guess he stopped caring about cinema at all and went back to theater. He makes tours in Italy and France were he explains Dante and The Divine Comedy, I assisted to one of these shows back when I was in high school, 10/10 and I sat right behind Lucio Dalla without realizing it, it was like one or two years before his death.

tldr: he got rich enough after La Vita è Bella, and decided to dedicate his life doing stuff he really likes.
His 80-90s comedies are classics here in pastaland but I don't think they've ever been dubbed outside of French and Spanish maybe.

But why does it matter in the context if its good or not? because i dont think it matters.

The bottom line is, all these WW2 movies are the same thing, just slightly twisted, its like playing a different version of Call of Duty, but the difference is, gaming community is smart enough not to reward derivative and repetitive projects like this, meanwhile the movie industry slurps WW2 movies like its some hot swiss pancakes

Normies on Letterboxed and IMDB lose their shit over WW2 movies and instantly rate it 9 or 10 out of 10

Geniune question, what makes any WW2 a 10/10 film? most of them are VERY lacking in artistic depth, they all just do the same thing, war is le bad, i mean ofcourse war is bad, now what? 10/10 because war is bad!?
10/10 because le sad victims?

I mean top 100 movies of all time? top 1000 movies of all time? how many of them are War movies? how many of those War movies are WW2 movies?

At some point you have to admit this, ratings WW2 movies are inflated and overhyped because people are scared to give them low scores they are scared to be called nazis

If thats wrong where are all the WW1 movies? Where is the Ottoman war movies? Where is the movie about Charles Martin vs Moors? any movie on Russian wars? or Chinese wars? Anything on the wars of the Prussian and German empires? You get very little variety, and when you get one it gets "normal" ratings because its not WW2 so no showering of 10/10 and tons of awards

Life is Beautiful is one of those mediocre-average at best movies that get inflated scores and tons of hype and awards just because its about WW2. Do you deny the favoritism around this setting and theme?

It's hilarious how pathetic and insecure you are about your nazi sympathies that you felt the need to project them as the reason why people like WW2 movies. You sad little man.

Here is how WW2 movie is structured.

>Movie starts: People are living normal life
>War starts: explosions and shooting
>Everything is destroyed, war is le bad
>Everyone is dying, everyone is sad
>Protangonist is le sad
>Antagonist is le bad
>Some suffering for 30 more minutes
>Le bad dude is gone, future looks bright
>Yaay its over, now we have hope for the future
>Movie ends

Everyone claps, 10/10! give them all the awards

At some point you watch actual good movies and you realize this shit is so overrated.

Look at creative movies, like Mulholland Drive, a creative noir mystery film that uses visual cues and clever directing to tell a thought provoking story, with great atmosphere.
Look at La Dolce Vita, a good drama about life with a lot of philosophical questions, good acting, good music, the structure is unique.
Pulp Fiction is a good character crime film with strong cast, look how its structured.
The Handmaiden, really cool visual presentation and camera work.
See for example the movie Blade Runner, very unique, atmospheric, thought provoking, really feels good to watch, barely recognized at the time.
See the Italian film The Leopard, how impressive its art direction and customes are, feels authentic and artistic

Why do you think Nolan made a WW2 movie? he knew that gets you the awards and the critical acclaim for low effort.

The ratings of WW2 movies are inflated and overhyped.
Most of them are just average of mediocre movies but get higher scores and bonus points simply because they are WW2 movies.

Refute this or keep crying

It was controversial even at the time because of this. People thought you shouldn't make a comedic movie about the Holocaust because even if it isn't outright denial it's downplaying it.

There is nothing creative about WW2 movies, they are stale, predictable and lacking in artistic mastery and depth.

All WW2 movies are either about war is le bad everyone is le sad. OR they are a bunch of men yelling and screaming and shooting for 2.5 hours

I dont like Shakspear in Love (although i love Gwynth) but everyone hates the movie, nobody is scared to call it for what it is, an overhyped, overrated movie that got promoted by Weinstein

Roberto speech was great at the Oscars ceremony, but that doesnt mean i should cheer and kneel for mediocre movies being showered with praise, #72 of all time? gimme a joke, the sad thing is that its not only this, its every WW2 movie, if the WW2 is solid it gets this kind of ratings, if its shit it gets middle of the road ratings, it still get higher than normal ratings regardless of its base quality, its like there is a hidden modifier for these WW2 movies and they always have this X Factor that gets them more avg scores
The Pianist is another example, many more like them, Come and See is literally #4 lol the whole movie was war is le bad, everyone is le sad, horrifying misery porn scenes, i get it war is bad, but #4 of all time? fuck outta here
