It's shocking because you can see the visual decline of the series if you watch them in succession. 1-5 are very visually diverse, going for a cinematic approach so that the episodes feel "sepcial". After that, they start to standardize the show's look, and it's more visually bland.

By the later seasons they solidified this completely sterile visually bland look that started in god damn Family Guy and spread to the rest of western animation because of how cheap and fast it is to produce. Everyone just standing around in wide screen flapping their gums. Backgrounds are highly detailed, but you're never going to show them from another angle.

Homer3 was unironically the short that scared me the most out of any Treehouse of Horror episode. It's not even really played for horror, but the idea of being trapped in an alien dimension and not being able to get back out at the end fills me with existential dread.

I miss the days when Treehouses of Horror were funny, good homages/parodies, and even had creepy elements.

I stopped watching Simpsons way back with Holidays of Future Passed. I was too busy in my freshman year of college and didn't have time anymore to watch TV though Holidays of Future Passed was a solid episode that reminded me of the golden years.
