Hereditary and VVitch feel about on par. Both tense and downright unpleasant to watch, but pretty exceptional in their own right.
But Beau and Midsommar were both a bit disappointing. I'd rewatch Nosferatu and the Lighthouse before either of them. Haven't seen Northman or Aster's Covid movie yet.

Eric Red's Bad Moon is definitely top 5. Watch it for H'ween. Arguably the best lyca after AWWiL.Silver Bullet has its charm and is well shot. Coppola's Dracula has a kino scene, as does the original Wax Work. Never seen Universal's og Wolf Man.
Og Teen Wolf gets a hallpass for the "I'm with Dick Nose" tshirt. The dad scene is also comfy.

S. Craig Zahler's three films btfo Eggers. And he's a weeb who shopped a 500 page mecha epic. Bone Tomahawk is objectively a better and more original retro horror than Eggers's best, he also scored it himself.
Hopefully Zahler returns to horror after The Bruiser and The Bookie wraps next year. He wrote a death metal version of Aliens set in an abandoned nuclear silo, called Silo that is found online, and a darker Se7en that enters Eye Wide Shut conspiracy.
