They had like three ideas and just did them over and over and over and over again. They actually didn't choose to end, they were cancelled, and had they went on the flaws would have just been more and more apparent. Whatever legacy it does have it owes entirely to its cancellation.

It got ruined because of the Me Too scandals. Up until that point Bojack was a Curb Larry David style character who the audience agrees with but is constantly misinterpreted by other characters and given ill-fortune in both a comedic and a dramatic sense. But since Millennials became infected with a misandrist mind virus they made Bojack into a villain. All of the momentum the show had built up had completely lost by turning their own protagonist into a rock bottom piece of shit for no reason.

House already knew everything from the start, he didnt need to learn anything, he just needed to find his something to live for, everyday, and he did, and thats where his connection and understanding of people was proven, and tested. That's part of what makes House so different and so able to go on for so long despite being formulaic.

It gets pretty bad past season 5 (most of season 5 is bad, but it has the best finale in all television) but remember this is a 20 plus episode show for the most part, it lasting that long at all and maintaining such quality is a miracle in itself.

That's a good question actually. I think it is a very particularly targeted show, when I was in my mid 20s I could relate to a lot of things I guess. Now that I'm pushing 30 I changed and when I think about it, I just sort of don't. Perhaps it is because using perpetually stuck in their youth troubled Hollywood figures makes it very much a coming-of-age story, because if you actually do grow as a normal person, it stops being relevant. Curious, thanks for making me think about it.

iirc from watching the whole thing years ago
>first couple of seasons are kino
>from that point on they run out of ideas and the show just becomes a neverending cycle of bojack being a shitty person
>the ending ultimately has literally no message whatsoever
My personal take is that this lack of any kind of real 'arc' for bojack by the end of the show makes it impossible for the show to have a compelling message beyond "trauma fucks people up and shitty people get trapped in cycles of despair and suffering for themselves and those around them". Nobody really wants to, or gains anything from, holding onto that kind of message. Imo the only way to make the show have any kind of staying power would've been to either commit to redeeming bojack by the end of it, or to actually have him fucking die at the end but in a way that makes sense and isn't just "two seasons of bojack suffering and now he's dead!".

Also past a certain point there was just so much cognitive dissonance within the show where you'd simultaneously have bojack do these fucking horrific things but then he's still the protagonist and you're still being made to sympathise with him but then he's also not being redeemed or growing at all. so yeah just a smorgasborg of bleakness and misery that then unsatisfyingly just kind of 'ends'.

I still don't fundamentally understand what the takeaway from bojack nearly fucking the fawn was. Like obviously it's a really shitty thing to do and yet simultaneously the writers move heaven and earth to show you exactly how and why Bojack is at the point of doing this in a way that feels like it's tugging on your heartstrings. But then the rest of the show is this being considered his lowest and most shameful act? Fuck man this show was schizophrenic, sometimes I wonder whether you had competing visions of who bojack should be and how the audience should view him within the writing room.

Being a retired obscenely rich movie star is very different from being a working class NEET. The other anon is correct. In fact, a lot of the humor in the show comes from the fact that Bojack is so rich he can do insanely stupid shit like move to a different state for months and buy an expensive boat just to justify a lie. Or he can fuck up his acting career with no consequences because he's already set for life. Normal NEETs are trapped in their parents' basements because they have no money.

Congratulations, you've discovered that feminism is an internally inconsistent ideology. The only reason Bojack sleeping with Penny was arguably wrong was because he was about to do it out of spite after her mom rejected him, not out of love. She was clearly old enough to consent (which she verbally and explicitly did) and was only gaslit into thinking it was "traumatic" after the fact. The show then attempts to gaslight the audience in the same manner by having Penny have PTSD over the incident even though the only negative experience she had at the time was her mom yelling at her. There is objectively nothing traumatic about almost having consensual sex with another adult.

First season was pretty good. People shat on the first half, but I felt the generic "adult animation sitcom" humor works to balance the drama of the second half, and I feel it was a rare case of a Netflix show taking advantage of the batch drop format.
I watched all of season two, and Bad Things happened to Bojack near the end of the season, at the same point as season one (I think the second-to-last episode), and I knew the writers were establishing a formula, so I dropped it before season three came out.

>bojack does his whole eulogy and somehow never once looks at the crowd noticing they're lizard people
That's the joke. That Bojack is so self-absorbed he doesn't even notice who he's talking to. It's a running gag throughout the series.
>diane goes to vietnam to "connect with her roots" despite being born and raised in america
Nothing wrong with this. The problem is that Diane went to Vietnam as a tourist rather than to try to find her ancestral home or track down any of her relatives. Yeah, if you go to any country as a tourist you're going to get the tourist experience. Big surprise.
>todd is upset with bojack for him fucking his friend even though todd is asexual and his friend clearly wants bojack
This was indeed retarded, but all of the commentary about asexuality was retarded because it's a show written by leftists. They actually believe these identities are coherent and inborn, which is disproven by Todd's reaction to Bojack fucking his friend. Only a sexual being would have that reaction, but the writers are too stupid to put 2-and-2 together.

I mostly agree with your points otherwise. There was a lot of stupid shit in the show, especially in the later seasons.

Todd was literally the most fucking obnoxious character ever put on screen.
It always pissed me off they portrayed him as a positive force who just goes up and up because of how positive he is, when in reality he's a BPD loser moocher with zero self control. At no point in the series do they actually make Todd face the fact he's a manipulative piece of shit. Even worse they also make him the "moral center" of the series as he berates Bojack and cuts him out.

It's weird because he's obviously trying to fuck her because her mom rejected him, which is extremely creepy, but the writers never judge Bojack from that angle. mooches off bojack, blames bojack for his own failures, pissed at bojack for banging emily even though he is asexual, blames bojack for him playing video games instead of his opera, blames his mother for his life and issues despite his mother was 100% right and kicked him out because he was a loser drug addict playing video games all day.
Todd is a BPD pathological moocher loser with no self awareness or discipline, hence why I think Damo from Cusaks stuff is a far more "accurate" character than how Todd was written, because Damo is how these drug addict couch surfing losers actually turn out.

I have a hard time giving a shit about that because while Bojack started it with being a creepy fuck, going back to the place of this girl he liked and hanging out more than he should, the doe girl is the one who pushed it, not him. And she even reassured him by saying that she is of age and was sober.

I dropped it after the second the last season because Bojack did a lot of fucked up shit, but then they made "me too" to be the worst thing he's done and the thing that requires a reckoning.

>Nothing happened in the entire series.
no memes came out of it.
it had nothing timeless/prophetic to say
