Dexter is a masterclass in wasting the most kino characters, I don't think I've seen any other show willingly throw solid gold out the window so quickly

Game of Thrones is the worst example of this.
We are left with super boring characters like Jon Snow and Danyris dragon witch bitch

Can't really keep Brian around for extended periods without compromising who Dexter is plus Dexter's sacrifice in killing him is one of the best moments of the series. Although I am surprised it took them until season 6 to bring him back as part of Dexter's subconscious.

Yeah, Underworld is another example of this. Had bill nighy best daddy vampire ever and big black lycan guy and hybrid michael and michael sheen, then killed them alll off in like the first 2 movies. There's a lot of amazing kimo that just ends because all of the good shit is ruined in the beginning.

doesn't brian survive a lot longer in the books? they should've kept him for at least one more season, i feel like dexter finding out he has a brother and then killing him in the same episode was too fast
it was still impactful but there was potential for more

I can't see the audience rooting for Dexter with him permitting Brian to kill Laguerta. It could possibly have been explored more but I'm also not sure they expected Dexter to be a long time series so wanted the first season to be a self-contained story with a definitive end.

>Kill off Rita just as Dexter discovers how important having a family is to him and becomes convinced he can balance both his dark passenger and family life

The whole point was that he couldn't balance being a normie with being a serial killer and he paid the price for being too selfish and cocky to realize that.

Thats a good point. Brian's death made the show a lot less enjoyable but in season 4 it rebounded.

>Antagonist of the season has done it for almost 40 years
>Dexter is determined to do the same but address the mistakes his rival made
>Doesn't even get a chance

If either stuck around they wouldn't have been remembered so fondly.

The whole show is basically about him doing exactly that

The groid in op's pic is definitely unrelated. The spamming of that zesty black boi has not helped.

Yeah planning stuff to pay off too far in advanced is just asking for an early cancellation to your series.

Being unafraid to make big changes is better than stagnating like most shows

He died in the books. Actually, it would be interesting to keep Dexter's brother alive since he is the co-protagonist of the books. In fact, based on his characterization, it seems that Dexter is more interesting. I don't know, it's an airport novel, so I don't know if what people and the wiki say is correct. I read Harry Potter and it was worse than people said.

In the comic books, with the exception of Shane, and maybe Dwight and Tyreese, the deaths were handled better. Juanita's death was cheap, but everyone else who was killed by the Whisperers was irrelevant. Even Abraham's death was cool.
